#18 | also...I personally think it'd be nice if the Announcement forum had its name changed to something like congrats and bdays and Announcements be made into a forum where announcements related to the forum are actually made by the administrators so that we could always be kept up to date on the latest news (e.g. that would've been a great place for updates on the DC move)
in addition if we do split up the forums, why not make the random discussion forum more of a general discussion forum? e.g. it doesn't just have a random and civdeb forum but more like talk about work, talk about life, talk about hiking, talk about politics, etc kind of deal...would sure make more use of a whole different area afterall
also I would think that perhaps some more mods would be needed for the additional site...unless they didn't mind doing two sites or some were willing to take one site and the rest the other site...so perhaps if this splitting of the sites becomes something serious to be done a announcement could be made accross the forum about hiring mods for the new site and for people apply by emailing applications that have a certain criteria to some tsg email address or PMed to a mod/admins account...
also, if the move is done I would think that it'd be a good idea to put in place of the random and civdeb forums here, redirection forums to the new site for a couple weeks or so so members can learn of the move | | Distinguished Member with 15,988 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2002 Location: Ann Arbor, MI Experience: Advanced |

#24 | Make a room that anything goes in. The only person that can shut someone down is the owner as he has to cover his own butt and then only if internet laws are broken that can get him in trouble. Zero admin or mods and let's see who gets told what with everyone on equal footing. No, I will ban you crap if you don't follow my way of thinking just because I can. It would be quite refreshing, lol. | | Distinguished Member with 8,570 posts. | | Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: Florida |

#25 | Well , I was really unaware that TSG had all these problems, I thought it was well laid out by subject and well ran.??? In fact , the best site of its kind because it offers so much , to so , many in one place. From Tech help --to photos --to banter -- to the more "dangerous" subjects, a site that has something for everybody.
I think the mods do a great job , didnt see a problem there either.
In fact it kind of irritates me to hear critisim of Mods --when its obvious they do damn fine job.
As far as Civ-Deb giving TSG a bad reputation ---why so ? and with whom???.
Just some hot arguements from time to time on subjects that are sure to make them happen.
It was said earlier that some are too sensitive --of course there are, but nobody is bending their arm to stick around Civ-Deb. If you cater to the most sensitive people in world -- you will miss a lot of fun!. I have to say , I have learned a few things from members in that forum , and appreciate it. Who knows how many visitors have benefited from reading opinion?.
From reading some posts on subject , it appears to me that some members want the site to reflect their interests --and not the wider range of things that others enjoy.
Thats the beauty of this site as it stands now, its one click for almost any interest.
There are many Tech forums and ones that cater to specific subjects , but none as diverse as this one -- really unique.
Mike , I would say be careful. You have created something really outstanding, and sometimes messing with success is not the wisest move.
TSG is one site that would be hard to improve on --IMO. >f

I've always thought you should be "Distinguished" by your length of time being a member!! Quote: |

This site is still wonderful overall ..... but the atmosphere has CHANGED drastically over the years.

#29 | We've done both disabling post count and separating tech and random posts before. That just makes it inaccurate. If a person has 537 posts, their post count should say 537. | | Senior Member with 1,808 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 1999 Location: Here for more than 10 years! Experience: BSBM, A+, MCP, OS X |

#30 | It was debated Brendan, but I don't think it was ever actually implemented (disabling post count in Random, that is.) Too many people were upset with the idea of it! | |
