Upgrading the processors sort of blows the whole $300 server though.

I imagine all 3 of your forum members were impressed. ..............

These days, entry level servers usually have at least:

2 dual-core 64-bit AMD Opteron processors/2 Quad-Core 64-bit Intel® Xeon at 2.66GHz
Up to 28GB RAM
1TB SATA Hard Drive

Do you know what you are talking about? I don't want to be mean (because everyone has their weak points) but SCSI Ultra-2 was made in 1997 and it has a data transfer rate of 80 MB/s.

well there is alot of SCSI Standards...so that may be a bit old, but there's nothing a good SCSI PCI card wouldn't fix ...and who cares if it's used? As long as it's still in good working condition it's all good..I mean why does it matter if it's used? And somehow I doubt that techguy is going all out on the servers such that they are dual dual core servers...they probably are more like single 2 or 3GHz Pentium4 servers....which would work fine for the most part until the traffic gets much larger because it's distributed between two of those servers using a load balancer and the MySQL database is taken care of on yet another server (3 servers total I believe)

computer_nut, you received that message once. You don't go out buying another server if you see the server shows that message 1 time.

1. THERE WILL BE PROBLEMS. Unfortunately, the Internet isn't perfect. Also, we run this site on a thin budget and can't afford multiple optical connections like the big boys. When things are VERY busy, they can get slow. When there are network upgrades or problems, there may be connection problems. However, we're currently averaging an up-time of over 99.8% over the last year according to www.watchdog.com and www.sitemonitors.com.

After we get the servers moved, I'd like to add another front-end server to our ranks, but the move itself is rather expensive, so it might be a little while before I can get a nice front-end. We'll see.
