If you want a third server you get one. The donations are definitely going to good use already.

The messages are completely normal and you don't need to start a thread whenever you see one, computer_nut.

If there were really completely overloaded it would probably say so at http://status.techguy.org/ (tsgstatus.com).

You sound like your talking about boxes of peperclips! Servers are expensive. The ones for TSG cost thousands of dollars. Unless your about to donate 5 grand, we're not getting new servers anytime soon. Your asking Mike to do that like it is a simple thing. It is hard to find a server you like, buy it and especially set it up and configure it. As JW said in another thread:

Nothing is so easy as the job you imagine someone else doing.

Anyways, we're moving soon so no upgrades/changes are in the near future.

are you serious about it being expensive to find a good server these days? What about this 6x700Mhz Xeon processor Netserver for $300: http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-Netserver-LT-...em270064257624 ?

afterall that's only a 4.2GHz server with a great RAID system and it supports up to 8GB RAM

Good one.

Are you joking! It takes servers a lot more powerful than that to run TSG and that system is very old. You would probably need 3 of those to get close to what we currently have. And if you didn't notice, it's used. Do you have any experience with servers? They are complicated and as I said,

Nothing is so easy as the job you imagine someone else doing.

8 GB isn't much to upgrade on....

It's a Intel Pentium III Xeon!

It's old enough to have a floppy drive!

4.2 GHz is not much.....

I wonder exactly what the TSG servers are like........

Yes in fact I have had experience with servers, I've run multiple active forums with success on a 800MHz iBook running YellowDog Linux, apache, ftp, email, and mysql ...I've also used and managed a NetServer LH3R which is a great server, worked like a charm

4.2GHz should be plenty for a extra server since the load would then be distributed amoungst three servers ...and btw, there are 1GHz and 1.4GHz PentiumIII processors as well which I believe that server can run which means it's capable of up to abouy 8.8GHz
