Looks like spoilers are broken
Earlier today I requested some moderator help with a post in the Random forum in the Harry Potter thread I initiated. A member improperly posted a spoiler out in the open without using the spoiler mechanism. The post revealed an outcome in the new book and was a bit rude to those of us, myself included, whom had not yet read the book.

I sent them a PM, and when they did not reply, I asked the Moderators to either fix it or delete the post. The post is/was #72 in my thread, and I have just asked the Moderators again to delete the post as it appeared that the spoiler mechanism is not working as it should.

I don't understand Tom. It looks like it's working to me. The spoiler is black until you highlight it to see what's there.

Works the same for me, both Firefox and IE.

It is working for me as well, in both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Since the post in question does not violate the rules, I see no reason for deleting it since the author of the post has not requested it.

Contrary to all of your observations, the spoiler feature is not blacked out in my browser, Firefox 2.0.0.5 (latest w/security updates) on Linux/Ultimate Ubuntu 1.4 Live CD upgraded from FF 2.0.0.4 which came with the CD.

For a while now, last time I checked constructing a spoiler - it did not work for me, and that was sometime last year when I was using FF 1.5.0.3 which came with the Dapper Drake Ubuntu Live CD.

Let me try to conduct a spoiler in this thread and report in a subsequent post - i.e. my next post in this thread will be to construct the text "This is a test". in a spoiler.

What I posted:

"Ok, here goes:

Spoiler:
This is a test!

-- Tom"

I can clearly see the text in the spoiler.

-- Tom

P.S. If you use the browser View Page Source you can see that I used the spoiler as prescribed in the webpage related to bbcode although that doesn't work for me either as I can clearly see the text that all the rest of you must be seeing as blacked out.

I think the problem may be you need an add-on (perhaps Java plugin) for spoilers to work properly.

Hi Cookiegal,

Due to the overwhelming evidence that all of you can properly process the spoiler, and my browser seems to have a problem, tentatively, I must conclude that the problem might be with one of the Add-ons that I use in my FF browser - and probably one that I have used for a long time given that I believe I noted the problem some while ago with an earlier version of FF. Either that or possibly how I have one or more of my Add-ons configured.

In order to keep you all informed, I will conduct an experiment with all of my Add-ons by uninstalling them all to see if that makes a difference. If it does, it will be proof positive that one or more Add-ons conflict with the spoiler feature and should be reported - somewhere - either to the Firefox folks, Add-on folks or the PHP folks, and even perhaps all three - when (and if) it is confirmed that an Add-on produces this anomalous behavior.

First, a list of my Add-ons currently (if you know for a fact that one of them causes the problem before I can confirm it - please report it here so that I can know asap:
Backgroundimage Saver 0.1.2
CustomizeGoogle 0.60
DownThemAll: 0.9.10
Dr.Web anti-virus link checker 1.0.14
Fasterfox 2.0.0
FEBE 5.0
FireFTP 0.97
FlashGot 0.6.1
FunkyCache 0.2 - disable in FF 2.0.0.4+
How'd I Get Here 0.1.2
netcraftoolbar 1.1.1.7
NoScript 1.1.6.08
ShowIP 0.8.05
Stealther 0.99
TabRenamizer 0.8.2
Tech Support Guy Forums Menu 2.3
TrackMeNot 0.5.17
Update Notifier 0.1.5.3

-- Tom

P.S. I have already tried NoScript partially, but nothing changed and I did not yet uninstall it - so, lots of work for me to do.

P.P.S. Thanks all for your feedback!
