You never fail, John, to amuse me.

I tried to press your serious button in a recent PM - and got your quickly serious short answer which did not satisfy. You have the slipperyness of a Thames eel.

Come on, up the ante.

Well then it must be a security setting on your browser (or maybe anti-virus program) blocking the ads.

No anti-virus in use. Which security setting in I.E.6?

Thanks, Laura.

Do you use a HOSTS file?
Spybot site file? (which I think uses HOSTS)
IE Restricted Sites?

Hosts (MVPs) Yes.
No Spybot
No Restricted Sites.

Ben.

Deleted the MVPs Hosts file and got the ads.

Well done WhitPhil. Thanks.

But I only get those 4 untidy Google ads at the top. Is that all there is?

There are also some Google ads down the right side. That's about it. We're not too bad around here.

Hello TechGuy,

Always a pleasure to have your input. The ads are sometimes a question with some members. I don't find them annoying however, because one has a measure of control over them.

All the best and thanks for a fine site.

Ben.

I am a paid member so don't see ads.

But I have come here as a guest to see how my host file works.
I do not see ads because of my hosts file.
I see the one ad of TSG at the bottom and then the google on the side.
Did after a long time find out how to hide it too. Not only hide it but get the added space back like your see it as a paid member.

But hey I like to support the site and am paid up till 16-Apr-2010

Harry,

Why not reveal all? If folk (like yourself) want to invest, have the means and are principled they will do it in anycase.

So why not reveal it?

Because it isn't helpful to the livelihood of this and other sites who depend on ad revenue to stay alive.

I marked this thread as solved when I posted this here.

My initial impetus for this thread was merely a wish to recover a view of the site lost in the three years of my membership. A matter of curiosity, stemming from my lack of basic know-how and an attendant ageing process.
