Go to last post gets confused with Replies n, Views m
Is there a way to disassociate the two occurences.

Checkout Unix/Linux forum, message by belogn69 entitled "newbie". I have tried some 20 or more times to get the Go to last post popup to be able to use it and go to the last post and keep getting the small Replies 9, Views 114 popup.

A simple fix for this would be to implement a larger last_post.gif (I know its been shot down several times before - but this it ridiculous if anyone even cared in the least about the user interface at TSG). There is simply no excuse for not fixing this problem with a larger last_post.gif.

Where's that popup come from? I can't even find it, at least anywhere close to the last post arrow? Maybe I'm missing something in the translation. This is what I see. I may simply be missing something, or I don't understand at all.

Hi John,

Uh, I meant the mouse-over that "pops up", i.e. if you can even get that far - it is so ridiculously small and needs a larger symbol to represent it.

The point is that mousing over very often confuses the last_post.gif with Replies, Views which "pops up" instead of the Go to last post "pop up" which verifies that you can now right-click or middle-click it to get to whare you want to go.

With regard to your attachment, the one on the right is where the last_post.gif occurs with the Replies, Views mixed in (which is not necessary and redudant anyway as you can plainly see the information in front of you), and the one on the left does not say it is for last_post as your attachment implies.

You are right, Tom, this has been raised before, by myself and others, but it appears to have implications of either difficulty or other - judging by TechGuy's responses.

It's just a hit and miss affair and very hard on most old eyes. But I endorse any attempt to find a solution - even if it means pestering 'young-eyes' TechGuy!

Ben.

You're right -- the arrow on the right is far too small! I didn't realize many people actually used that. I always use the larger icon on the left, and rather prefer it's function. We'll definitely make the last post function easier in the next major revision!

Gosh, I didn't even realize there was one on the right!

I see it now, and it does have a different function, go to last post. I normally want to go to the first new post...

Learn something every day.

If you're entertaining changes, making the go to first new post a bit bigger wouldn't be a bad idea either. Since I use that one a lot, it would be more useful to me.

I don't believe what I am reading both from you, TechGuy, and you, John. I think it is now obvious that neither of you can any longer bring to your reading of posts the concentration sometimes, even often, required.

I am disgusted.

Gee, if it distresses you so, stop reading them. I really don't know what your problem is.

Just disgusted, John, not distressed, and appropos the matter in this thread.

Here is the thread I began on the matter of the gif indicating the direct link to the last post.

If your confusion is genuine and it may be, I will pay you the compliment of telling you about your responses, not only to myself but to others, and, if your ego will permit you, you may become the moderator of excellence which you occasionally demonstrate you have the capacity to be. The posts/responses I refer to are ill-conceived, completely in error in some instances (i.e. to say careless and cavalier), and often suggest an indifference to (and tinged with contempt for) those of less experience and know-how than you yourself have.

I have enjoyed your humour and you have, on occasion been helpful. I do not doubt your computing knowledge.

I shall continue reading your posts, John, hoping for improvement and enlightenment.

I don't enjoy taking a serious position, but if I feel strongly enough...

Ben.

Hi Mike,

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! When you look at the column postings the column is labeled Last Post under which the last_post.gif is placed thus making it very intuitive to use what is there - way to small.

-- Tom

P.S. Try out the last_post.gif arrow I mentioned in one of my last posts about this topic in this forum - don't remember when - Search for threads I have started in this forum - its there.

Well, I'm even more confused about what has the burr under your saddle now that before. The referenced thread, and the one referenced in that thread, have no posts from me at all. So, please tell me, what is your problem? What posts are you talking about that are "completely in error"? Even if I have posted erroneous data, which I'm sure I probably have at some point, so what? Do you really think you're so perfect that you've never made a mistake? Sorry, but I just don't get it.

John, I think he's more offended that I misunderstood which button he was referring to. Don't tell anyone, but I make mistakes, too.
