I think the Mac forum description needs changing
Quote:
For our fruity users who prefer Macs over computers.
1, fruity = gay

2, So you're saying a mac isn't a computer? What is it then, just a box with electronic parts in it?

(and don't even think of changing "computer" to "pc" and think that's ok, macs are pcs! 99% of the world that thinks they're different are idiots)

How about this as a description:

"For those that prefer Macs over other brand computers"

That description makes more sense than what you have now.

Basically it's the same description, you just added the word "brand" and dropped the word "fruity".

So you say MAC is a computer, but then say "over brand computers" ? MAC isn't a brand?

However about "for people who prefer macs over Windows based computers"

Ok, that sounds good. It's a lot better than what the description is now

re-read that again. I said "over OTHER brand computers". Keyword being "other".

Yes Mac is a brand computer. Just like Dell is a brand computer, Sony is a brand computer, etc.

no offense... but you must be of that persuasion to think like that and not see that it's a play on the word Apple

I totally didn't see that!

Ok, I guess that makes sense.

But to be safe, I think we should stay away from all the words that means "gay". Here is a list of some:

fruit
fruity
fairy
tinkerbell

Maybe the words fruit and fruity are synonymous with the word gay to you...but it's the last thing that comes to my mind, in fact I have never heard anyone use those words to describe a gay person

Ever been to NY? I hear it all the time here. "hey you fruit, get away from my car!", as opposed to "hey you fag, get away from my car!" (the guy down the street form me shouts both phrases at the neighborhood kids all the time, and those terms aren't limited to just him, I hear them often around here. "fruit" and "fag" are used interchangeably around here)

Ok, well we pretty much killed reason 1. Now what about reason 2, the assumption by the description that Mac isn't a computer?

Can we get a new description?

It's just a joke -- I hate to see people taking things so seriously (like our Hardware "Plug-and-Pray" ). Feel free to recommend another description, though. We should probably updated it.

Hey, namenotfound!
Stop calling me an idiot!

But seriousely, I think the description is good, I can sort of understand how you'd be offended by the fruity part - but the "MACs aren't computers" innuendo? Unless you own Apple Inc. stock I can't see why you'd take this as anything else than a joke

BTW, can I still use fruitcake?

This has been discussed several times in the last several years.

Check here, here, and here.

I quote myself from within the above threads:

So technically, the "joke" is on TSG if you think about it.

Something along the lines of a reference to their cat code named OS X releases would be more appropriate. Most serious Mac users see the reference to the fruit, and realize this site needs an update on that forum description.

I'm not offended by it. Just amused.
Mike - if you want to change the description, I still think a reference to the cat code names for OS X would be appropriate.

It can "do away" with the colour, but it can't get rid of the "fruity" name - Apple
