Searching and Forum Setup
Happy New Year!

Searching is great, but along a different line, possibly enhancing the forum topics would be appropriate.

IE: General Security could have sub forums for: AntiVirus, Firewall, etc instead of all in one generalized forum. There are so many different security programs and so many different user issues, that to break the forum down would not only help people scan the forum they want to see, but I think it may also assist your search engine.

There are other forums that this could be done with, but if you agree, I will leave it up to you to decide since right this minute I don't have time to look them over. I could find time later if you are interested in my suggestions on this though, so please let me know if I can help!

Thanks for the suggestion! It's inevitable that we keep having to split forums due to increasing traffic. The problem we've run into already is that with too many choices, people won't spend the time to put their question in the right place. Sometimes they're confused (if my printer doesn't work, do I post it in Hardware or Windows XP?) -- others are just overwhelmed by too many choices.

Hi Mike!

Though in the case I mentioned, there is a big difference between antivirus and firewall, isn't there? I am sure to some people there is confusion about what they even are. But maybe, if there isn't already, a forum set up for those who are so new to computers, that they need everything spelled out. You wouldn't even have to write the whole thing... you could take the most easy to understand posts that explained things in detail and copy or move them to a new "What is...?" forum.

Not to make more work for you... I wish I had the time to help you on this. Since I moved to this tiny, obscure (to the state even!) area of NJ 10 years ago, I have been wanting to set up a computer users group, especially after broadband hit the area. Believe it or not, there are still people out there with no router security setup or no firewall or AV. I guess I should be charging people for my time to help them, but that is not what my business does. Alas, the time for a group setup has not been available to me with life and work always getting in the way!

Peace!

Before that we need a new forum forum.

Having lots of forums and sections doesn't work. Just create a few and let things flow.......
