Solved: Solved Folders
I would like to suggest having solved folders in each thread so that:
1) the main thread would be slightly neater
2) If anyone would like to search for solved threads, it would be easier and go through all the solutions.

I think what you're suggesting is marking a particular post of a thread as the solution. I've thought about doing this, as a lot of other sites already do. It lends itself to some threads better than others (sometimes the solution is drawn out through several posts), but it seems like a useful idea to me.

I would also like to add that similar post should be either linked up to each other or probably listed together in the same thread. No point having 10 threads about the same core problem but different scenario and all having the title of THAT "core problem". Just a thought. I would infact find it easier to scan through a long list of threads that way - the lazy man's escape route. There is always the same reply "Use the search function". As i find in more forums, narrowing it down to a common phrase or terms dont really help much. Having an approved thread/post of all the identified as solved and feasible course of action would be much better. My three cents.

I agree with the folder (or I think Sub-Forum is what it would be) for solved problems. I'm not sure if yo uwould link them all. It would be useful but would require a lot of work on the admin and moderators parts, looking through all of them and linking them.

Err.. That should be true for all old threads. But i think as users of the forum, we do the initial search, then with that, copy/post the link as the first sentence to make other aware that there is a similarity and therefore the mods would have an easier time to do their job. That in fact would have people do a quick check before actually asking similar questions. (damn.. i have just made my easy way of 'asking before searching' fly out of the window)

Okay, I guess your right. I thought you ment go back and link older ones. Of course the mods should probably work on moving all posts, even older ones, to the Solved folder, but linkign them only for ones that are since this idea is incorperated.

Building something that requires manual labor for each thread like that will almost surely fail. It's easy to automate marking a post solved moves it to a different place, not so easy to link like posts, that's a tedious manual operation. The whole point of the search capability is to avoid such a labor intensive task! I don't think I want to sign on to sit for hours linking threads and post!

heh.. not really asking you sit down and link old links..new ones from now on and probably recent ones.. that wouldnt take very long to do but think about the advantage, senior members wont be troubled by repeating questions. Let me take an example, words: how to ...? I am guessing there are like 10 post regarding the same topic (i missed out on the search again)it would be so nice to have someone who is interested to compile a post like basically link 1 post to another by a click of a button. All it does is like adding all the reflink to a single post.

You can be the manager of the "solved" section and do all that grunt work.

hahaha.....being the one who suggested it doesnt necessary means that i want to do it . Just wanted some honest opinion on what i think is great for this already established forum. I would be glad to do all the work if only i knew what half of them were about. I think it takes great experience just to know at least 50-60% of what every member here is trying to convey and ask and answer. Having said that, i dont think i am qualified to do it
