That's still up-coming, Squashman. We have to get the basics working before we go to the trouble to create variations.

if you use firefox and know CSS then you could use this add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2108

though I'm starting to like the new look now,

just takes some getting used to,
everyone was too used to the old look.

Can we get rid of the side bar as an option?
I think I saw it some where?

only premium users or HJT specialists,

the option is in your profile settings some where but it won't work unless you're one of the above.

I think it's a big improvement. And, is it my imagination, or are the pages loading faster (I'm on dialup)?
Yeah.. Its loading much faster now.. less usage of images, fast and less fat on server..

Hey Mike,

Great effort although I really liked the uniqueness of the old color scheme. I felt as though I was entering a world apart from the rest of the web before and the colors were alive... especially the turquoise and orange combo with the light blue background. I'm sure that while some designers would argue that the old colors were a bit Miami Vice, era wise, I found them playful and interesting.

As a graphic designer of 26 years, I know that criticism can be painful and I'm sorry to see you get sort of slammed here after a lot of work done but my honest opinion is that there should be preferences where each user could change color and font schemes like on MS Windows. From a professional standpoint this graphics scheme is competing with the majority of other forums. This could be a good or bad thing depending on your goals for the site.

Personally, the new graphics feel as if I left a gigantic, outdoor commercial playground, perhaps in Florida, and entered a small apartment in Reseda ( somewhat run down San Fernando Valley suburb ) with mostly blank off-white walls. But then I'm an artist who needs a lot of color in my life. Again personally, I would never have stopped and joined this site with the current scheme. I find a lot of other interesting people here ( yes, I consider myself interesting... umm, and slightly deranged as well ) and a more unique color scheme may have partly been what attracted this 'brand' of member. Can I tolerate the new scheme? Frankly, I don't think so but I'm sort of addicted to the site at this point so maybe I won't be able to not chime in here and there.

I did like the background bands on the forum contents page as I have a 24" monitor and the last replies currently are not comfortably viewed with the corresponding thread title.

OK. There's about $300 worth of free consult and I never even asked for a retianer...

You're right about the last post being too far to the right on large monitors. I need to find some way to set a maximum width on that table. (If I set a fixed width, it will force the page to stretch for those with small monitors.) Anyway, that's definitely on my list.

And, as I've mentioned, we hope to eventually offer users the ability to choose from a handful of color schemes, but we need to get the basics nailed down before we go making variations on it.

More customization would be nice. I too don't like the all white background as much.

You drive down Parthenia Ave. or Roscoe Blvd. with your windows rolled up, doors locked and only during the day and you'll be fine.

Finally I got to the end of this thread!!
It seems that the comments are pretty much confined to two appearance problems. I did like the old style better, but this is innovative, compared to the mushrooming new sites, which all follow a standard pattern. I guess I'll get used to it.
Only thing I have found, apart from already mentioned issues, was that I did not seem to be able to save an edited post. I am going to try now and will confirm with a P.S.
If you don't see a P.S. Then it confirms the problem.

P.S. OK Now its working. Maybe a glitch on my connection?
I,m not quite clear on the smaller font? maybe it has been rectified, but it looks pretty much the same to me?? I don't like those heavy black ones though (SAVE - Go Advanced, etc.)

I had the same problem with saving edited posts about 3 hours ago but it seems to be working for me now too,

and the fonts issue was fixed, it used to be the verdana font but was changed to arial and now it's been changed back to verdana,

I think thats what happened.
