Good Clean attempt Mike. I think you're getting the right feedback.
(Work in Progress )

It's taken me a while to get used to it.
As of tonight, your News page is still the old style (Header anyway).

I liked the old way the "last posters" appeared off to the right on the Forum Thread lists. - made it clear and easy to see who was actively posting. The way it is now, it's hard to find the poster under the Topic title. (a little crowded - IMHO)

I'll have to play around to see if I can find some way of making the outside one color, but the input field another (as in your mock-up). For now, I think I've got bigger fish to fry.

Alright, it's 1AM -- I'm really going to bed this time!

Well, I think it's terrible. Hard to read, a pain in the eyes, and frankly, it's really really ugly.

Background colours and disabilty
You may not want to change the background colour, but may I point out from a disabilty issue, that there are many people who will have great difficulty working with your white background.
I for one have great difficulties with a white background as I have sight problems.
People who have dyslexia, may have big problems with your white coloured background. I used to have to teach such people and invariably a blue background vey often would help them read the screen better and others needed to test what background colour suited them best.
People who are getting older and consequently have more difficulties with reading text on a screen.
May I humbly suggest that you think about the users from this point of view, and not yourself.
It would be very helpful if a change of background colour option was introduced to help such people who do not have 100% good vision as you appear to have.

Personally, I found the old screen background much better.

Think and help people with disabilties.

Wow... thats all i can say, wow.

I personally think the new look rocks. everything (including the logo) is so much smoother/cleaner.

the old theme, imo, looked very, very ugly.

Well, obviously there is mixed opinion n the colour scheme, bit but I like 50% of it, and hate the rest!

My main problems
-The colour is all to bright!..I had to tilt my screen to actually read it!
-The site bad seams to Prominent its a nice idea, but I think the loss of that massive amount of 100px is just too much, you begin to wonder, are you here to ready the side bar and other stuff around the site, or are you here to use the forums!
-Finally, the top bar does not seam to be working in opera for me. Only half the images seam to be appearing, the top and the bottom the the page also kind of look a bit like a cockpit in my opinion! - But I guess that could be a good thing in a way, one I learn what everything does!

Thanks for all the time and effort you put in anyway, Its really great to know you care about the site still after all these years, but maybe on thi occasion,k you might be bale to come to a compromise with us!
Cheers

My biggest complaint is the lack of contrast between posts

especially in tech forums you need the alternate backgrounds so it is easier to distinguish between original post & replies

now you have to read everything each time & not just look for the original posters reply

>>are you here to ready the side bar and other stuff around the site, or are you here to use the forums<<

I am here to help people on the forums. I don't find it as nice as the previous setup and its hurting my eyes. Thats the problem when you have a disabilty with your eyes, flash gits don't seem to grasp the issues. It comes over as whoo hoo look how good I am rather than, is this helping you.
