Hello? Anybody out there?
Unfortunately, my latest experience has not been a good one:
http://forums.techguy.org/malware-re...-run-line.html
A quick scan of the first 10 pages in the HJT forum shows my experience is, unfortunately, typical. In the first 10 pages (300 posts) 202 are still marked "new". 2/3 of posters got no answers.

That's because there are too few security folks and too many problems. The situation is the same on other boards that do the same work.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to attract more helpers, I'm all ears! It is definitely a problem around the web, but I would love to find a way to attract what talent there is out there...

Mike, I am working as fast as I can through the boot camp, but it is an awfully slow process. My teachers are wonderful, but goodness knows they have other students, fighting malware themselves, and oh yea, I'm sure they have a life!

I got some stuff finished up with school, so hopefully I can speed my work up.

I see a lot of people start the boot camps, but there is so much misunderstanding, they get frustrated and leave. 1) The resources are a bit spread out. Old hands know the stuff, but for new beginners, it's daunting learning where to find answers. 2) Like every other discussion board, there is a lot of misunderstanding. The teachers are trying to teach students how to keep from making costly mistakes, and the students take it personally.

FWIW... people come here and post their issues, because they know you have one of the best sites, with the best people, around. So... you have an extraordinary demand, with little supply.

Its not going to get any better either,I have watched this stuation getting worse over the years to a point now where only a lucky few get their problems solved, its almost like a lottery really as to whether you get any help now,and all because of too few helpers who are qualified,I have known most of the helpers for a good few years and thay do a great job,all of them, but they cannot perform miracles ...the system as it stands does not work anymore because anyone who posts can find their post buried in a single day,and they just do not get answered ...there are not going to be enough helpers ever to cope with the enormous number of posts these forums get,now or in the future..the only way I can think of is to restrict the number of posts allowed to the malware forum in particular,so the helpers get at least a chance to catch up,just whether that is possible I dont know, but I can not see any other way other way round this situation ...at the moment its like trying to pour a gallon of water into a pint pot, most of it just gets wasted and lost .....

Hi,
I saw ur http://forums.techguy.org/site-comme...-run-line.html
u mentioned the use of the following programs
CCleaner and CCleaner Registry Cleaner, WindowWasher, AFT Cleaner, Secunia Software updates, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware , Windows defender (comes with vista)
if u have all of these programs and any other registry, firewall and spyare programs installed on your computer, remove all of them and just keep one security programs (that has firewall and antivirus init)
this should be happening as backround scanners might be running and making your system very slow

We need to get more people to go for training,

A lot of people that already have training (that aren't helping with logs here) help in other sites,

I only started recently (about a month and a half ago) so it'll be awhile before I can help with any logs.

On the flip side, I think those seeking assistance need to exercise patience given they are getting free help. Most have the option of taking their computer to a local repair shop and have someone address their needs in a more timely fashion but for some kind of fee.

I do understand people want to get their computers disinfected and operational as quickly as possible but they also need to understand the volunteer pool is limited AND the volunteers don't just do the work they do on the forum. They have lives and other things that keep them away from the forum.

I'm also going through the training but my ability to get through the vast amount of material has been hindered by my current work situation. That will be changing soon and I hope to "blaze" through the training and start helping out here as soon as absolutely possible.

Peace...

Some thing like this? http://forums.techguy.org/malware-re...w-tighten.html (though a bit dated, still some useful information)

Unless you mean some thing else then maybe a page in the library or a thread would work for anyone wanting to make it,

But then there's the problem of the people actually reading it.

Yep, but I'm betting most of the people who request malware removal assistance here find this forum because they are seeking help with getting malware removed. In other words, they have already been infected.

Still, I feel a "This is how to PREVENT getting infected" kind of thread would be of great use.

Peace...

That's good but the title should be changed to include "prevention" and "infection". As it stands now, "security settings' won't get the attention of the casual user looking to prevent infection.

That thread should also define what "infection" actually means. A system isn't "infected" by virtue of having an infected file on it... or is it? You get the idea.

Peace...
