And while we are dealing with this problem, another thing I have also meant to ask. In some forums and in some threads/posts, the page does not load from the "top" but instead loads maybe half-way down so I scroll down to get to read the post. I inject this now because there could be some connection, perhaps. This has been ongoing for some time now and I don't mind scrolling to read the post.
that happens to me when I'm using my works pc but works fine from home, I too would like to know why

Sorry you are also having the problem with the page loading Dotty but maybe we both will get an answer and may it be one we can deal with. I don't strongly object to this but thought it may just be of help to "those in the know".

I'm glad you brought it up, although it's not a big issue it is irritating having to continually scroll down every page.

That sounds like IE to have to scroll down to start seeing a page.
That is why IE8 has the Compatibility View.

A webpage looks broken. Can I fix it?
Compatibility View lets you view websites designed for older browsers. To fix misaligned text or images, click the Compatibility View button to the right of the Address Bar.

Was here with IE 8 and the page had all the white space and you had to scroll down to see things.
This site does not show the Compatibility View so guess it is not needed here. But still page is not showing up right.

Now after I login then the page shows up right.

Note I am a paid member so not only was I logged in but the ads removed etc.

So are you saying that if I paid to be a member the pages would show correctly. Surely that is not the case because this has only recently begun acting this way. By being a paid or contributing member I would not see the ads either. That would be a plus however, the ads don't, as a rule, bother me much. None of these "things" are happening on other boards that I visit and this is why I think/thought it was this board.
Another thing that I noticed tonight--quiet possibly it has been happening all along; when I click to indicate that I have read this forum the "hand" in IE6 "blinks" momentarily but it still does not do its job.
Thanks for your reply hewee.

being a paid member isn't the issue I can assure you, from what you say I think it may be an IE6 issue as that's my works version, I have IE8 at home which is problem free, I also don't have problems on any other forum or web site apart from here, perhaps Mike can look into it for us

And I haven't had either of these problems in the past several years since I have been a member---just started maybe 1-2 weeks ago. And no, I haven't really thought that being a paid member would eliminate these problems. I may consider downloading and installing IE7 on this machine to see what may happen. If I do, that will occur tomorrow and I'll be back then. In the meantime, "the beat goes on". G'nite all.

I've found IE8 to be pretty stable and you're right. I too have only had the problem lately

Use Firefox.

Anyhow you all talking about the trouble going back a couple weeks then that would go along with these threads.

Solved: Scheduled Maintenance Notice for June 7 residual

and

Solved: Dropdown Menus Won't Drop down

But this was not the sites fault because Jim fixed it.

Guess we will have to flip a coin and play odd man/woman out. I don't mind being the odd one out because thread tools still ain't working for me. Also guess that IE6 has suddenly gone bad but still it works on other sites.

Here is a new thread bu.

Thread Tools and Computer specs question

Using IE6 also.

MS wants you to update to a newer version.

Be nice to know if IE6 works for anyone who has not gotten any MS updates this pass month.

Many thanks hewee. Tufenuf is a smart guy and it is interesting that he made a connection with the "type" ad appearing on the same page. Very interesting indeed. I feel the problem is with the board. And MS is always wanting everyone to update whatever they are pushing at the moment.
