This happens to me maybe once a week, but I know why. I have around a dozen different browsers and they all use the same folder for cache. Because they don't all save pages in the same format, sometimes a browser starts to act up. I realize that your problem is slightly different, but the solution may be the same if javascript and some other things are acting up. Clear the browser cache.

I think the problems may be different---I use the same IE 6 browser. Search does not open and I like to always mark a forum read when I finish.

Marking a forum read doesn't clear your cache (or in IE, your temporary internet files).

Yes, it may be different. But clearing the cache is still a good and easy thing to try.

Maybe the internet and computer demons will soon go away and my browser(?) will perform correctly again. I had already tried your remedies last night but to no avail.
Ain't no biggie and I will learn to adjust without that feature although it was nice to use.
Things have surely happened before that are more weird than this and I have coped. I only reported it because I thought it may be the board. Now know it isn't.
Thanks for your time and sharing of ideas.

Guess this is far from being solved because I now find, and just proved it 3 times in 3different forums, if I right click on Forum Tools and click on OPEN, I am then taken to an "area" where I can mark the forum READ. But then I have to go to Forums in order to open another forum. Crazy huh and I don't 'think' the trouble lies with my browser but with TSG but I have been wrong before in some matters. Hopefully I'll find help soon.

Sounds like the other forums support non-JavaScript browsers. Unfortunately, we started requiring JavaScript a few years ago. You're going to have to figure out what's blocking JavaScript on your computer -- probably a browser setting or firewall.

I haven't knowingly changed any settings and I have just checked these settings: Enable Java through your Web browser
Enable Java through the "Java Plug-in Control Panel"
Clearing your Web Browser Cache and all is well with each of them.
My installed version of Java is 6 ll which is not the latest but everything test that was thrown to my browser setting passed. I did not see our site listed in "Exceptions" in my Comodo Firewall settings. I have cleared my browser cache 2-3 times since this began; deleted files and even cleared history to no avail. Anything else to suggest? I don't recall how long I have used this board--years, I am sure and this is my first experience with this problem. Never have I had this problem with any other board.

Here's a simple test to see if JavaScript is working: http://liblearn.osu.edu/tutor/jscript.html

Thanks for weighing in John but my Java works just fine; only not on TSG.

Note that Java and JavaScript are two very different things. John's link will show whether or not JavaScript is running, which is what you need to run our drop-down menus. (We do not use Java.) Hope that helps!

My mistake guys, I left off the word script but I did see the "action" in the link John posted.

And while we are dealing with this problem, another thing I have also meant to ask. In some forums and in some threads/posts, the page does not load from the "top" but instead loads maybe half-way down so I scroll down to get to read the post. I inject this now because there could be some connection, perhaps. This has been ongoing for some time now and I don't mind scrolling to read the post.
