Solved: Scared of advanced users!
Hi All,

I am only a "beginner" when it comes to IT. Over the last few weeks I have read posts by other people where I felt that maybe I could help or offer a suggestion. However, I am way too chicken to do so. I look at all the advanced members etc and I get scared off. As in Who am I to add my two bits worth?

Should I pluck up the courage to answer a post I think I can help with or .........just be quiet which is what I have been doing so far.

Let me know!

welcome to TSG, HC
i've been a beginner here for years!!

learned some things over those years tho....and the same problems pop up, so i am sometimes able to contribute

one in awhile, too, some experience i've had proves useful

most folks who are here looking for a solution welcome both, whether it's what they're looking for or not.....as you noted, they're are many, many highly qualified people wandering around here....but still not enough to be everywhere all at once.....so the rest of us help each other as we can

as long as you're sincere, and use common sense, the worst that'll happen is that nobody will pay attention -or you'll run into the occassional smug/rude person who thinks you are "beneath" them

and you'll learn more along the way....
so don't be chicken

Go for it.... someone learns or is helped... and sometimes we all get corrected and that is how we learn.

If you feel that you have something to add, go for it. Most people on here will respect you as well as what you have to say, so there's nothing to worry about

I agree. If you have something to contribute please do so. It has also been observed that some who claim to be 'Advanced' don't know jack.

By all means, please contribute.

Yes, there are several people here who are experts at things. But many of them got that way by reading and contributing here.

You may feel you're posting something everyone already knows; but they may not. Too, say you post something, and someone does correct a factual issue (or adds to it). Then you have learned something for you, that you may not have otherwise known.

Take this thread for example. Yes, Iltos, a senior person here and a moderator, was first to the scene and posted. While that is sufficient, isn't it nice that several other people commented on the same thing? It just gives more breadth to the subject. Too, while other people may read the thread, if only one person provides an answer, then you're wondering "does anyone else read this? Is this correct what they're telling me"?

Obviously the malware section is a totally different animal. But please, if you have knowledge on a subject, please jump in. It's about people helping people.

Now.... If it's the CD board and you think like me, join in. If you think like those silly people who disagree with me, then... it's full!!

Hell, everyone started at the same place, rank novice!

Chime in if you have the knowledge, as mentioned not all the Advanced members know what they're talking about. Our favorites here are the Einstein members, they rarely know enough to come in out of the rain!

Sure, but Common Sense is really very uncommon. I have no idea why it's called that, because it's pretty hard to find some days.

Which brings us to the well-used phrase "Hey... I'm not Einstein, but..."

Indeed if you feel you know how to help, go right ahead. You have to get your feet wet sometime. Once you've participated a few times, you should be more comfortable with it. Even the experts don't bite.......well not most of them. Some shoot first and ask questions later.
