#16 | ps - after-thought:
i don't think it should be mandatory though - we wouldn't have anything to belly-ache about then
besides, there are a FEW here on the forums that DON'T ask questions where location would matter!!!!!!!!!!!!

#17 | Problem with computer specifications is they frequently aren't working on the same computer they posted. OTOH, usually a person that lives in the UK isn't working on a computer in Greece! | | Community Moderator with 16,964 posts. | | Join Date: Jun 2002 Location: Cowtown, against my will Experience: PHD -poop handling degree |

#19 | I don't think you can make computer specs a required field. Many people don't even know what they are or where to find them without some guidance.
Keep in mind if registration is too difficult, they will just go somewhere else. | | Distinguished Member with 7,625 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2008 Location: Surrounded by liberals-Midwest Experience: Yep |

The country is a good idea,if posting in CD. The poster may be talking about something that applies in their country but not the US. A different terminology may be used for the same thing, causing a little confusion.
Also some people may be using English the best they can and appear to be under educated or the sort, when isnt usually the case, but is merely having trouble flowing the language.
But back to politics I think it is very reasonable to ask for the country, and beneficial in many threads

PC specs would be great as well but I have seen too often:
Q. What are your PC specs?
A. It says HP on the front.
We don't want them to think they are at an extreme tech site which could discourage some.
But I think location, optional for the paranoid, can be beneficial in many threads without discouraging users.
I also think something beside the option stating that it could add relevance to solving problem(s) could/should be included.

Keep in mind if registration is too difficult, they will just go somewhere else. | True, but anyone that doesn't know what country they're in shouldn't own a computer! | | Administrator with 63,387 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Quebec, Canada |

#24 | Computer specs shouldn't be required, I even know someone playing an online game and didn't know what OS he had. So, not everyone knows even the simple basics. | | Distinguished Member with 4,486 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 1999 Experience: Advanced |

Post #9, last post, first reference to location.
Seems location could also possibly avert some conflicts. I know this isn't that common of a scenario, but it isn't first time either.

Location can be important | Yes, I don't see the issue they were claiming though. Good mods on the site I am sure would squash anything getting too out of hand.
300 Million people in the States, I am sure 1 or 2 people dislike Canadians. Thankfully, both our Countries have that right to do so.
Have a great day! My southern brother.
