Search Dead Again?
An internal server error occurred. Please try again later.

I did, several times over the last couple of hours.

And just got this one.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 71 bytes) in /home/httpd/vhosts/helponthe.net/forums/search.php on line 1155

Server 3 FF 3.5.1

I get the internal server error 4 out of 5 times I try a search, and then it will finally go through.

Other times, I get just a page full of unrendered HTML.

The problem seems to arise when my connection is under heavy use by other applications. Otherwise, if the browser is the only thing using the connection, it works fine.

I've never been able to get search to work, either. It always returns "internal server error." Doesn't matter what browser I use, either.

There has been some work going on for the search lately, it should return to normal soon.

Search has been not working so often for me I don't use it anymore. Keep getting the Internal Server error, or the Out of Space error.

I just use Google to search the site:
In the Google search box enter this:
site:forums.techguy.org search words go here
You can narrow it down to a specific forum by specifying the forum in the url, which you can get when viewing any post
site:forums.techguy.org/site-comments-suggestions search is dead

In Firefox you can create a shortcut so you just need to enter the shortcut and the search words in the address bar
In the Organize Bookmarks dialog, Create a new bookmark
Name it Search TechGuy Forums
For location, enter this:
http://www.google.com/search?q=site:forums.techguy.org %s
For keyword, enter st (for Search TechGuy)
The st is the shortcut you will type in the address bar to use this bookmark.
To search, type st search is dead in the address bar

If you leave out the space between .org and %s, you can type the forum name part of the url:
st /site-comments-suggestions search is dead
you do have to have a space between st and /
Or create a bookmark for each forum you want to search if you can keep the shortcuts straight.

I haven't had problems in a long time, but I'm sure it depends on what you're searching for and how many other people are searching. Don't forget there's a shortcut to Google search by going to Search -> Search Using Google at the top-right of any page.

Thanks for the reminder!

Hasn't been working properly for me for a while. 3-4 weeks.

search not working whether it's from a members profile or a general search, it's quite late so I don't think it's due to the amount of users searching.
