Comment,
As I see it, Stoner talks only about one subject regarding being in Tech retalted News.

Concerning all other posts, I don't quite understand, what the problem is. The heading itself reads:
Quote:
Quotes, links, and discussion of interesting tech stories.
CD says:
Quote:
Controversial Topics - Don't enter if you have thin skin!
right there, it scares me off. Civilized? Debate? Many post don't come even close to that.

One should be able to make a remark, ask a question, describe an experience regarding what is in the TechNews.
Otherwise we don't learn anything, just have to figure out ourselves, like:

Comments and questions are fine,.....but Stoner is not "talking" or "commenting,".........he's debating. Perhaps a fine line, perhaps a subjective line......but one the administration feels did get crossed there a couple of times.

If I may on the subject....

My opinion is worth about as much as.... well... not much.

First, I have, and always do believe, latitude should be given to moderators moving threads. It is subjective in many areas, and people need the benefit of the doubt. So I don't think people ought to throw a tantrum (not saying anyone here did this) when something is move to CD. Say it is your thread and it's moved to CD. If you feel something is out of line posted there, report it for discussion.

To me, tech-related news is just that-news. On this day, this person said this, or that. I liken it to the front page of the Wall Street Journal, middle section. Straight down the page it says "This happened here" or "Person X made Y announcement." or whatever.

The posts to accompany that should be "thank you", great article, good find; especially since the "thanks" feature is not used here. However.... that's it. Any more discussion, and it goes at least to random discussion. If it is a subject that seems sensitive, or where each will engage anothers thoughts, then it be moved to CD.

The CD forum is not a No Man's Land. There are excellent moderators there watching things. These days there is an awesome group there, who typically respond in kind. You be nice; they'll be nice.

I'm certainly not offering up disagreement with any policy. However, I do believe that the Foremost Tech-Related Website should be the place to receive proper information about illegal fire sharing. Not how to do it, but why it should not done. If we don't discuss why it should not be done, and explain that "not everybody is doing it", who else will?

Thanks for letting me share some thoughts.

Well... that's true. But with due respect... it is many times contingent on the thread. There are some excellent discussions there, and with some disagreement with your statement, some brilliant debaters. I have learned much there.

I'm not trying to debate here, really. I'm just trying to encourage people to give it a chance. If something seems out of line, report it, or PM a moderator. They really are good people.

I agree with you for the most part. However, remarks are a pretty broad area. I think the nature of the type of comment is the key.
