Solved: Links must be exempt from the "asterisk" rule
I am attempting to post an article in "The Philosophy Thread" in the Random forum, and the "asterisk" rule applied by TSG has gone too far.

I include a note in the post about the "florid" language used in the referenced article.

Please amend the "asterisk" rule when the "asterisk" phrase does not appear in print in TSG, but may be the proper letters to access a link, so as not to apply the rule for a link!

Check out my last post here, post #68 to see the problem. The link has asterisks in it where the rule was applied - and consequently the article is Not Found.

I don't see why profanity should be any more acceptable in a link than in an actual post. Keep in mind that would open up the floodgates to post links to all kinds of less than desirable sites and many won't post them as hidden links, as you did. But even if they did, the link can still be read at the bottom of everyone's screen. Do you want people's kids seeing that?

Hi Cookiegal,

Good grief - please contain your point-of-view to not working up a lather about what-ifs in terms of people's kids seeing a link so named. They hear the expression every day in the school yard. Has TSG ever gotten a parent's complaint about that particular expression? Seriously, censorship of a link (even though it passed muster for an eminent philospher's use), does not excuse the asterisk rule from following an agenda of censoring so-called purient links - which goes too far IMHO.

Sorry, the censor doesn't give us the option to watch only part of your post (i.e. not links) -- it's all or nothing. But, even if we could, I think Karen is right. We've blocked that language because we don't want it here. If you're not happy with that, there are TONS of sites that don't mind it. We just like to keep this place a little cleaner than most.

There is a danger there as you never know where you're going to be redirected to. See this from Google:

Of the 109 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 2 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent.

I changed the link to the blogs home web site and included a note to scroll down to read the post.
