Solved: When I use the normal search feature..
I get a strange reaction, wrg to my "private messages" inbox. I am using XP sp3, IE8, and Avast Av.

I have tested this several times, and it happens on all servers here at TSG, it is not tied to only one server.

What happens is when I click on the search button, and type in a search word, as soon as I click on "go" then my private messages changes to orange, showing that I have a pm. and when I go to my pm folder, there is nothing there.

The same thing happens when I click on a persons avitar, when viewing a thread, and then click on the search function "show all posts by ....(member name)
this also happens on all of the servers here at TSG.

Its not a problem for me, since the search works regardless of what my pm inbox is doing.

Very strange -- I don't have an XP computer at home anymore, but Vista with IE8 (or Chrome or FF3.5) doesn't seem to do that for me... I also tried switching to the Gray Night theme to see if that made a difference, but no go. I'll check on an XP machine at work tomorrow. Can anyone else reproduce this?

I can't reproduce it right now but it's the exact same thing that was happening to me a couple of weeks ago when I think you said the database hadn't been reset. Dan tinkered with something that fixed it.

I've also noticed yesterday that some pages don't load properly, you know when you get the text but not the entire background (it's mostly white) and in one case slurpee55's avatar wasn't showing but it said "slurpee55's avatar" in the box where the avatar should be. Hopefully these may be clues that will help diagnose the problem.

P.S. I'm using Firefox and the Classic Blue theme.

Here's a link to my post with the same problem:

http://forums.techguy.org/6951484-post23.html

This was Dan's explanation of the problem at the time as posts weren't updating for some:

"There was a bit of a burp around 2:45 that caused the replication/search DB to stop updating."

Database replication caused search to stop showing new items, but I don't remember anything about it showing up as private messages...

Maybe try clearing cookies and logging back in?

I solved this problem...
by deleting all of the sent / received PM's that were stored here under my account name.

It's odd that you'd have that problem if your limit of PM's hasn't been reached...

And I certainly didn't delete any PMs when I had the problem recently but it fixed itself when Dan was tinkering.

and is the reason that I included the screenshots in my last post. In case someone else had the problem, I didnt want it to be said later, that I must have exceeded my pm limit, causing the problem.

using both the normal search, and the search for all posts by another member option, and the problems was still there, as I described in my first post, right up to the time that I deleted all of my old PM's, and then I checked again, using both searches, without logging out of TSG, and the problem was gone...

anyway..Like Mike said, Im glad its gone, it didnt cause my any problems, or slow down my browsing...but everytime I saw that orange banner...I couldnt help but think it was a real PM...
