Forum chains
Ever time I open a post I have to navigate to the original post that started the chain?
Are ya kidding me? The perfect place for the original post to be placed is 1st in line so that you can read the post that you wanted to read before reading everyones off topic response. I bet you would find that we all tend to stay on topic a little better as a result.

What do you mean? Post will always show chronological; last one is the one that will show.
Where are you seeing the posts being off-topic? That may be a characteristic of the particular forum, and not necessarily due to which post is being shown.

I guess I don't understand what you are getting at.

First, I've edited your post to remove the disguised profanity which is not needed to get your point across.

You can set threads to be displayed oldest first or Newest first in your profile under Edit Options. Also, if you click on the arrow pointing downlwards to the left of the thread title, it will take you to the first new post in the thread that you haven't read yet. also, clicking on the icon to the right of the thead title and poster's name will take you to the last post in the thread.

Maybe its me?
I just would rather open a chain and see the original post, without having to hit an arrow, before reading the most recent response. Call me crazy.

Either way, you still have to make one click. Click on the thread title, and you start at the original post. Click on the down arrow to the left of the thread title and you start at the first post that you have not yet seen.

Your choice.

The reason you don't see threads the way you want is because you have it set to show Newest First rather than Oldest First. You can change that in your profile settings under Edit Options.

Merely having the first post for the thread at the top of each page would still not brief a person of what is going on up to date in the thread.
If its a new thread to you then you should read the first page anyway..if it is a familiar thread, you would find the first post on everypage to soon become an eyesore.

When I view the forum index and want to see the new posts to the thread, I click on the double arrors marked View New Posts below.

If I want to review the whole thread, I click on the topic title.

If I want to go to the end of the thread, I click on the little down arrow in front of the topic title?

What other options would be useful?

That's odd because on my machine those two arrows to the right say "go to last post" and the downward arrow on the left says "go to first new post".
