Solved: High CPU usage when visiting this site
I started noticing high cpu usage for iexplorer.exe when posting on this site, I disabled the flash add on, and its back to normal, I don't see this issue on other sites. Any Idea's?

It might be helpful to know something about your system -- I know that with some very old hardware, flash animations can have a huge impact. It can also be a problem if you're running an out-of-date video card driver.

Thanks, its not just your site, but its weird, I solved the issue with this site by disabling the flash add on, but the problem persists on other sites with allot of content. Even stranger, on this site with flash enabled it bounced from 13-60% cpu with no mouse movements, with flash disabled and on other sites I have to move the mouse in IE and move swiftly it to get up to 100% cpu usage. Once the mouse it outside the IE window it stops. Aero is disabled.

It also does it in safe mode. It also does it in XP (same version of IE7) that is installed as dual boot with Vista, I normally use Vista.

Its not old hardware, its a MSI barebone system, all new hardware, no leftovers used in the build. 2gb memory

I do have a small atom processor 1.6 ghz, and the latest Video driver for the 82945G chip I have. The processor is low by todays standards but is hyperthreading, I think I will try disabling hyperthreading in the bios just to see.

Disabling HT did not help.

Hi Mumbodog,

Since you run IE, you might give the latest Firefox (3.5.3) a try, and get the Add-on named NoScript which may help to block a lot of the activity. You would have to right-click the NoScript icon on the status bar of Firefox at the bottom, to accept executing any JavaScript scripts that TSG web pages incorporate which may be part of what you are experiencing (just my SWAG at your problem).

Give it a try to see if it helps.

Since it does it in safe mode and no ad ons mode, I suspect it is IE issue rather than Java or flash, thanks I will give FF a try.

Thanks for your input Tom.

I believe your problem is somewhere other than TSG or IE.

I just did this screen shot on a 6 1/2 year old machine, Intel D875PBZ board, XP Pro, 3Ghz. Pentium 4 processor (Northwood core), 1GB DDR 3200 RAM, IE7 with TSG, MSN, and YouTube open.

I agree, its not TSG, but why is my iexplore.exe the only process using all the cpu?

It could be system corruption or malware.

Ran sfc, and no malware using 4 scanners.

Moving to W7 soon.

No problem here with Win7, so maybe that'll fix it.

Don't try doing an upgrade, a clean install is the only way to go.
