Solved: Windows 7
Tomorrow is the big day ..
Any thoughts about a Windows 7 topic of its own ??
I guessing it will get a little crowded in Vista and Window 7 soon.

I was actually thinking about that recently. I was against it at first, but maybe it's not such a bad idea. I'd like to hear the thoughts of other folks.

How about moving NT and W2K to the 95, 98, Me (maybe even drop 95 and NT) as obsolete OSs that are no longer supported and allow XP, Vista and Windows 7 to stand alone with their own forums.

That's not a bad idea -- we could put the obsolete OS forums within a category that's within Operating Systems (adding a second layer). We'd have to deal with the problem that NT/2000 is currently in the XP forum -- so we'd still have existing NT/2000 threads in the "new" XP forum. Not a big deal, but something to be aware of.

I like the idea of 3 primary Windows forums--XP, Vista, 7--with a second "Other Windows" category. I used the term "Other Windows" because I don't know where the Server versions go.

I would leave the servers on their own as well, like they are now.

The seconds are being counted but I do have doubt regarding the pirated software. China has already got Windows 7 pirated copies dumped in their PC markets. How would Microsoft tackle this issue?

Um........what does this have to do with whether or not Tech Support Guy adds a new forum for Windows 7?

There would also be existing Windows 7 threads in the "new" Vista forum, unless someone wants to sort though them.

We can always take a page from the Vista/Win7 boot screen, and use the category "Earlier Version of Windows".
Though that should probably be Versions to be grammatically correct.
NT4/2K posts are so few I don't think lumping them in with the Win9x versions would be a problem, no real need for a second layer.
This would work for me:

Windows 7
Windows Vista
Windows Server 2003/2008
Windows XP
Earlier Versions of Windows
UNIX/Linux
Apple Macintosh
DOS/PDA/Other

I think we let the threads running in the wrong forums sort themselves out over time. I don't want to have to sort them all out!

Earlier Versions of Windows
Linux and Unix
Apple MacOS
DOS/PDA/Other

By the way, if anyone wants to suggest other forum structure change, now is the time!
