I think the 50 posts rule is a good one. Anyone who really intends to stick around and help out willl go over 50 posts in no time.

On the other hand, there are many who probably only sign up for the exposure with links in their signatures and make a few posts so it appears they're helping and then they're gone forever.

If we make the number too low then they'll just make some posts in the game threads or Random until they reach the required number.

I don't know, Cookie. 50 posts is quite a few posts. Also, unless they really provide some help, no one is going to look at their links.

People need to be posting here to be a part of the community; to be helping where they can. Like you suggest, they can get 50 posts in no time.

I would say more like 25 than 50, that can take a little while for someone who has some knowledge but not a whole lot.

25 posts can be made in no time at all, at least setting the limit to 50 will hopefully deter some spammers

Please don't get him after me. (Don't tell him this... but I'm still nursing some wounds from the last time I wondered into his back yard....).

If you are just coming here to peddle your site, it will be a pain to just generate 50 posts for that purpose.

If you are here to be part of the family, you will get 50 posts in no time.

There... did I back-peddle sufficiently?

Some are missing the reason for the 50 post suggestion. It's not that we're thinking people here will necessary click on the links, however they show in search engines and direct traffic to the spammer that posted them.

IMO, if the person isn't planning on hanging around for 50 posts, he doesn't need a signature. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to eliminate them totally, but I realize that some folks do like them. I'd just like to remove one more incentive for the spammers to come and post one or two "useful" or "semi-useful" posts to get their links into the search engines.

Good point, John. I forgot about that aspect.
