TSG Loading slowly...Ads ?
I usually find that it takes 5-10secs, sometimes more, just to load a new TSG page.

I guess its because of all the Ads.

Never used to be this way, but I understand Mr TSG needs to make an income.

Shame, as I & others enjoy jumping on & helping (as well as getting my own help obv.)

So is it just me or same for all?

+10secs for a new page to load is frustrating & unacceptable imo.

IMO, the ads are a good part of it, but it's picked up in volume, too...BTW you can bypass the ads by donating..

How can the ads be good for anything in a techsupport forum ?
They take up a third or more of screenspace, come from multiple sites & often take many seconds to load - if at all, which often stalls the forum text body itself loading.

Sure - I can donate to remove them, but I'm not so flush @ the mo so I won't presently. And why should I have to Pay to get smooth access here when I am mostly helping others with their issues, for free, out of the goodness of my heart & the pleasure I get from doing so ?

Maybe those that get helped, who occassionally might donate, could allow the tech helpers adfree access without having to pay themselves ?

Ok, here's my rant....You are not alone in helping people and this site is the best...There are now six servers running this site, or is it five, but, that cost something....Now, that being said, I'm not donating right now because I'm a cheapskate and I notice the slow down. Oh well...

Have you noticed which ads or servers are creating the slow down? I haven't noticed anything myself, but maybe I'm not on at the right times...

Server 1 and it appears that the flash players are part of it. This one I just saw is a Blackberry by T-Mobile. (That's with my adblock turned off...) But, a couple of thoughts: Connection speed between a couple systems I've been checking, and one most obvious at least on the comparison of a couple of my machines, the video card. I have integrated video on this po-dunk laptop I'm using now and it's like dial-up compared to my desktop with 256 meg video card...A world of difference...So hardware might be part of it...

Hey

Thanks for taking the trouble to notice the thread & reply - you obv care a great deal about the site. Really good to see (suspected was true anyway )

I will make a note when I come across it again - ad.doubleclick.net seems to be main culprit @ the mo.

And congrats on an awsome site - it was a few years I was away, doing other things, but I have always appreciated the communitty & wealth of knowlege & help here. Was a shame to see so many ads compared to how it was before, but I understand you have to cover costs & hopefully make a living. They are not terrible really - just the load times can be frustrating @ times - esp when visiting multiple pages & trying to see/get lots done in a short space of time.

Best Regards

AbbyK

You are lucky if it only takes 10 seconds, be on dial-up, it takes forever and I do donate, but it still loads slow.

Since it is not a requirement to help, I would not change the rules.
In my opinion, this is what keeps this site going, by having REAL volunteers, who love to share their knowledge and time.

I made some changes earlier this morning. Let me know if you see any difference. Unfortunately, I doubt it will help much for those on dial-up.

The only real help for dial-up access is broadband.

I've been wondering too. The screen will show "read static.techguy.org" in the lower left-hand corner. It may take 10 seconds or so. I'm on DSL.

No biggie; I totally understand the commercials. I just figured that was what was happening (the ads were loading up).

Add note: Mike, thank you for everything you do here. My previous comment was about things in general over the last couple of weeks; so it does not take into account whatever fix you made. I'll make note if it stays the same over the next couple of weeks.
