I suspect that members loath creating and linking continuation threads as much as our moderators and admins.

EDIT: As I was writing this, I see that Dotty was kind of agreeing with me about the difficulty of noticing post counts, starting a new thread, linking the old and new threads, and then requesting the old thread be closed.

I have no idea if this is possible or how much coding would be involved (like to keep Mike busy ) but once a thread count hits 5000 and someone attempts to submit a reply, automatically give them the option of starting a new continuation thread. If they accept, a new thread would be generated with a back link to the old thread for reference. At the same time the old thread would be closed and the last post would be a link to the new thread. Maybe duplicate the original subject in the new thread with the option to edit it, like to change the continuation number. Might be nice to include an editable quote of the first post from the old thread in the new thread. Would come in handy for reminding everybody of game rules. If the option to start a new thread is ignored, the next person replying would be given the same chance. This would go on until someone did start a continuation thread or a mod closed the thread.

if that's your preference (shrug)....
i was just offering a simple way out of the predicament y'all were discussing....that of "how to continue a closed thread with the least amount of hassle"

as you say, you folks will figure it out....

Don't forget it won't be as simple for us
honestly, i don't understand this....it takes a millisecond to check the post count...as for the rest of it, except for the 30 seconds it takes to file a report....it's no more difficult for you than for any mod to post the cross thread linkage (we don't have a magic button for that)

Quote:
you're expecting us to keep an eye on the post count start a new thread then link and the icing on the cake, report the old one!

i had no idea what to expect, actually.....tho i did anticipate some dismay

that sounds like even more work on our part!
no arguement here
is that a bad thing?

I'm not going to comment further on others opinions, enough has been said and as previously stated, we'll just have to get used to it

havenja07;7479583,

since you have/had at the time of my reply to your post, a total of 1 post here at TSG, I am wondering if your post was some sort of SPAM, or if you are just confused regarding the way to quote another members post???

I'm going to report your post, as spam, to be on the safe side, and let the moderators decide if it's spam or not. I mean, since they don't have enough work to do as it is, here at TSG.

And I also want an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle with a compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time, for Christmas.

And, can a mod please close this thread before another spammer decides to use it?
