Comment: The Games Forum: A NEW POLICY
The new policy imposed this evening may keep bandwidth under control and simplify life for the moderators and admins. However, I suspect it will lead to dissatisfaction and major confusion for members playing the games. I went to one of my regular thread games and found the closure notice. My immediate thought was, "How long before two or more players in such a game each start a new thread on their own? I found my answer sooner than expected; 25 minutes.

Is there a way that some kind of bot script could handle this if the moderators don't have the time to start the continuation thread?

I agree Chuck, it's going to be easy to miss a new thread as I did this evening and I'm sure it will happen again before long!

I support the new 5000 post thread limit, and the stopping of automatic new threads.

If it is a thread you wish to continue, then go ahead and start up a new one yourself....OR take a look one sub-thread back to see if someone has already beat you to it.

I do not see the big deal about it.

I think big deal is that they are concerned about duplicate threads being generated by over-zealous people starting new threads once the 5k limit is hit. Could be wrong, but that's my take on it.

got it in one Tim! the concern isn't the post limit cut off, on this occasion I started a thread as I'd overlooked another member doing so, not being overly zealous.. a genuine mistake which we think will happen again and again, obviously this wont affect the Mods, just the members and who are we to say many more errors will occur whether some Mods think it's straightforward or not, it will take time to adjust to the idea but if it has to be that way then I'm sure we'll get used to it eventually.

i understand the predicament....
i'd just ask that everybody pay a bit of attention

how 'bout something simple?
if you are the 5,000 post, end the post by saying something like "i've asked that this be closed"
start a new thread....link them however you like
and report the old one, asking that it be closed.

that should minimize the posters who continue in the old thread, and solve the problem of multiple new ones.

that wont necessarily work as some of us, including me, don't even look at the post count, I never see when the thread has reached it's limit, I rely on you so it will probably still be down to a Mod to close it as you've recently done.

Don't forget it won't be as simple for us, you're expecting us to keep an eye on the post count start a new thread then link and the icing on the cake, report the old one!

that sounds like even more work on our part!
