Exclamation [SOLVED] Chat Scripts!
Hello all. I have a question. I was wondering where I could get a good chat program for my website that is written in PHP, Perl, Java, etc.

It needs to have admin features like kick and ban and moderators, and I would like the graphical interface to be nice too.

Currently I am running phpMyChat, and it's ok...I don't care for the interface or the admin having to use commands to kick people, etc.

What I am really looking for is a way to host an event. On my website I am going to have a singer come on and answer questions. I don't want people to blurt out and talk all in the room. I want them to submit their questions to me before the chat (which I can do via a webform) and then I will ask the artist the questions, and the artist will answer. Basically, I don't want anyone to be able to talk except me and the artist (I want the other people to spectate).

Is this possible? And what program/script (free) would I need to do this?

Also, would it be possible for me to host a channel on an IRC network and then devoice everyone except me and the guest? Then how would I get that into a webchat?

Thanks A Lot All! This site is great!

-Mark

A quick Google search for "Chatroom Scripts" comes up with http://simplythebest.net/cgiscripts/chat.html as a top result. The site contains links to downloads, and although I've only skimmed the page, I did note that most of them are pretty feature packed, so one should cater for what you need. Most of them are CGI/Perl scripts.

Hope that helps.

Edit: I didn't actually notice, but you will have to pay for some of these apps.

If you want, you might be able to edit you're existing chatroom's script; any relatively decent HTML editor should have some functionality for CGI languages. It isn't all that complicated (alledgedly ). Try searching Google for a few tutorials if you're not sure.

I got one! It's called jIRC. Unfortunately it set me back $50, but it's exactly the one I was looking for.

Thanks
