Problem Publishing With Frontpage
I'm having a problem - hoping someone can help. I'm using frontpage 2002. When I go to "publish" on the menu the 1st box is for the "destination to publish to" and I type in the name of my website on the web (domain name)/the full path to the directory in which all the html pages are, and then it will bring up a small login box. I type in my username and password and it stays on that box - like it does not accept this. If I click "cancel" it will then tell me that "a web does not exist there". But there is indeed a website there!

I can publish, or rather upload, via FTP though. But the last time I published I was able to do it and not use ftp. I dont understand why it doesnt work now. Frontpage extensions are installed on my host's server. I contacted the helpdesk at my host and they say that they tried to get access using the username & password that I gave them, and it worked ok! There must be something with my setup of Frontpage then, right? The last time I published, I was using Frontpage 2000 and it worked both ways - publishing and uploading with ftp.

You are using FTP in FP to publish so you need to put in the FTP address of your web site.

Problem Solved...But
The problem has been solved - my host gave me a whole new password which works thru Frontpage and also connects via FTP

But

They raised a new question. I've heard this before too. You have to either publish with FP or use FTP but you cannot use both or else the "frontpage extensions" wont work and have to be re-installed by the host. True? Why is this so? The other day, while not having frontpage access, I uploaded a php script via ftp. So does this mean it wont work now?

I think you have a perfect example of why many of us don't use FP.

I have heard a lot of people complain about upload problems/corruptions. Not to mention some incompatibility with NS.

I would never use FP from one bad experience, just not worth the hassle. DreamweaverMX will publish and synchronize and works the way I want it to.
