Just So Picture Window - DW ext.
I downloaded the Dreamweaver extension Just So Picture Window. In the code that comes with the ext. I see:

return document.MM_returnValue

Can anyone tell me what this does exactly in this instance. I do notice that when a thumnail is clicked on and the bigger window appears everything looks fine but closing the bigger picture causes the cursor to return to the top of the page. Could this code be causing this? It's a real pain on a long page with many photos.

Thanks.

Its javascript to return the value of a variable to the script.
Can't help with a problem you have with the code if you don't post the code however..

Here is the code. Like I said, when the window is closed it automatically takes you back the the top of the page.
PHP Code:
<a href="#"><img src="images/sm-004.jpg" width="100" height="68" border="0" onClick="JustSoPicWindow('images/Picture 004.jpg','592','400','* * Click screen to close * *','#133f54','hug image','0');return document.MM_returnValue"></a
See here for an example. Just click on one of the thumbnails.

Thanks.

I'm not completely sure, but in the link, you could try removing the hash mark (#) so it would just be a href="" etc
Although its not the proper way to do this--if it fixes the problem I can't see it causing any other issues.

Actually I added the hash mark on purpose. It's not in the original code. I added it because I want the cursor to turn to a hand when rolled over, otherwise people don't know it is clickable. The code does the same thing with or without the hash mark anyway.

I figured it out. I replaced the hash mark with "javascript:;" and it doesn't jump to the top of the page anymore. Thanks for your help.

That is really an invalid way of doing things, it works, but the aactual cause of the problem was the a href="#" surrounding the images. In a link, a hash mark indicates a link to an anchor (marked point on the page) and # is a shortcut to the top of the page. Removing the &lta tag around the images would also solve it. Then you could use CSS to make the cursor change.

In every image tag on the page? That would take forever. I'm not that familiar with ccs so using the ccs tab and clicking create a new style where would I put it? Thanks.

There is an easier way to apply it automatically to the whole page.
Put this in the head of the document.
PHP Code:
<style type="text/css">
img cursorwait }
</
style
Note that I haven't actually tried this myself but it looks like it should work to me. If it doesnt, try replacing "img" with "image".

Thats weird, it should only do that on img tags. Did you try replacing img with image? Too bad that didn't work.

It did do it on image tags, only it was the hour glass instead of the hand, which is what I wanted. It's ok though, I finally got everything working again with the javascript:; instead of the hash mark. Thanks for your help.
