A registry search on my Win2K box on the word "Volume" found relevant results in these keys:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Settings
This key contains a value named "Volume" which is currently set to -60 on my machine. I have no idea what that value represents as far as an audible level.
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Volume Control\<device name>\Play Control
This key contains a single value named "LineStates" that appears to contain the display and volume settings for all the devices listed in the volume control panel applet you get if you double click the speaker in the system tray.
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\MediaCategories
This key contains GUID based subkeys that contain values such as MIDIVolume, CD Volume, etc. Determination of the location of the proper settings within these keys is a mystery to me.
I didn't find anything useful when I searched for the device name listed in my registry and referenced above. One would think that there is a list of installed devices somewhere in the registry.
My registry search on "Audio" and "Compression" returned more results than I had time to parse -- sorry.
In short, the answer to your question is, I believe, "Yes". I wouldn't recommend it though. |
