Help recommending a php/MySQL app
I'm a designer, my talent is more or less limited to the order of creativity first then programming, lol... As such, I have a lot of work to keep me busy JUST designing static brochure-type sites (hey, that's all the client wants sometimes) Right now, I've got myself in a bit of a jam and don't have alot of $$ to work with. I have a client (specifically speaking--a chamber of commerce) in need of being able to do updating the site's member directory records on their own (maybe even the end user updating their own record) and I need (think Tony Soprano) "youse guys's" advice.

I have access to an Excel spreadsheet that has all the necessary records on it that we use for our membership directory. When I export this to a plain delimited .txt file and upload it to the server as a table that's as far as I get with it! A table, yipee! I know NOT how to characterize each record and type of field, etc. as per the 50-odd pages of the official PHP and MySQL web sites dictate, nor do I care to. Whenever I go through the official documentation on programming sites I always end up reading for hours and then going to back to square one....which is go to school for programming. No time, other work to do! Maybe later!

Given my limited programming knowledge/interest I am finding it difficult researching to find a product that is capable of such tasks. I KNOW there's one out there, I'm just in need of some recommendations from the industry experts:

I'm looking for a product (script/app) that will work with MySQL db and perform table/record functions, to be installed to a remote host then connected remotely as well, to be able to perform simple reports to the client web site, as well as provide access to key client admins to perform updates of records on the fly, remotely via a secure browser interface (preferably allowing for password-protection).

I've so far looked at:
DBQuikEdit - www.DBQuikEdit.com (asked them the same question, after reading all their FAQ and installation/operation overview)

AppGini/sqlitespl - http://dl.winsite.com

DaDaBik - http://www.dadabik.org

Multidbscripts - http://www.multidbscripts.com/

...and others! Am I going at this the via wrong angle?...Maybe I just need some easy-cheesy magic phrases and schtuff I could throw into the command line?

Host server is running:
-----------------------------
O/S: Linux Red Hat w/Apache
1 MySQL db per domain account (yikes)
.php, .asp capabilities

Oy vei such a headache I've got now

PS - go ahead and knock the design...it's from 1999 and on its way out anyway, lol.

If you want a nice front-end for MySQL, try phpMyAdmin. It allows you to create (nearly) every part of your MySQL database through your browser.

http://www.phpmyadmin.net/

That should make using MySQL easier to use. I don't know if it'll help you, but what the hell...

Hey thnaks, Corrosive...I think the control panel I use at the host has that built-in but I will check it out anyway!

Anyone else can help me?

Figures I'd get stuck with the hard jobs all the time, LOL

Oh well, this one will be a learning experience, one I can add to my Jill of All Trades, Master of None list!
