Well, i searched around and i didnt find it. What im trying to do is to let users upload text files to my site. An example would be, a place where users can type in a joke and it shows up on the page. Can i do this without ftp software? It would be somewhat like a completely public message board...

I know im probably overlooking something big

Have you thought about a remotely hosted free guestbook where your visitors can post notes, jokes, etc. Here is a link to a list of guestbook sites.

I do not know of a means to get something posted without it being first loaded to a server via a ftp client unless it is a guestbook or posting board remotely hosted.

You are welcome. Once you get it up, I'll pop in to see what young folks are talking about.
