Cache problem?
I am the web master of a simple static website. Every week I make regular updates to the site. But many of my site users complain that they see old content. I know it is the browser cache problem... But I want to know is there any way for me a designer .... design the page such that the users cache is cleared and the new updated site is loaded each time a user visits. Keeping in mind all the different browsers out there.

I don't think so unless they themselves set their browsers up to check for a new version of the page every time they visit the site and empty temp files when they exit. From a programming standpoint you could have your pages preload all images.

Unhappy Thanx Anyway
I wish there was a solution to this problem.... It is so hard to explain to all of them to empty their temp files and clear the cache.
All are a bunch of old folks!

I have an idea that might work. If you make your site with an iFrame that loads a page with a different url, you can always change that page that is loaded in the iFrame with the different url every week. Did I make myself clear?

I think this will work, but it would need testing (I used it on one of my personal pages, but never really checked to make sure it worked)...

Put this in the <HEAD> section of the html code:

<META NAME="expires" CONTENT="15 September 2000">

I read somewhere that this will force the browswer to get the new source rather than looking to the cache.

Hope this helps,

MBN
