Angry Unrecognized Database
I've had a little experience with VB6, but use it so seldom, I usually have to go back to square 1. I'm trying to develop a form for my Access 2000 database, using the Data Form Wizard, and when I go to access my .mdb file, I get an error message: "Unrecognized database format C:\My Documents\...\...mdb" I tried repairing/compacting the database in Access, and I get the same message. Can anyone help? Operating system is Windows 98.

A shot in the dark since I've never used the data form wizard (?) but I've seen this happen if the database is one version of access and the data control specifies another. Specifically, if I tried to open an access 97 database with the data control's type property set to Access 2000 then this error occured. I know this is the reverse of your problem but maybe its a starting point?

Starting point? How does one know to what version of Access the data control's type property is set, and can it be changed?

It's the Connect property. It's in the properties dialog of the data control. Are you using the instrinsic data control that comes with VB? If not then my post above is probably not very helpful. Sorry.

Got it! I am in the process of downloading Visual Studio Service Pack 5, hoping that will solve the problem, as described on the Visual Basic Knowledge Base:

"Install Visual Studio Service Pack 4 or later. (If you are using the Data Control, change its Connect property to Access 2000.)"
Thanks a bunch!

How do you connect to the database? Post the code here. Do you use DAO or ADO?

Problem Solved for now
I think the Data Form Wizard uses ADO. Installing Visual Studio Service Pack 5 solved my problem because it allows VB to open an Access 2000 database, and "Access 2000" now shows up in the Connect property.

Thank you for your responses, coderitr and AbvAvgUser!

Now that problem is solved, but I'm sure I'll be having some more during the course of putting my little application together . . . so I'll be back!
