Question Dreamweaver Newbie
Hello!

I have been asked to design a new website for my church. i have a college degree in graphic design (only with consentration on hardcopy projects). so designing the website wasn't hard, however, i am to the point where i need to publish what i've done. i feel so stupid, i don't know how to do this.

a little background. the church already has a site up and running, however, nobody knows how to update it. so they told me to pick a program and run with it. so i chose dreamweaver, designed the webpage and now i need to post it on the already exsisting site. i know the webpage address

i have been told it's not password protected or anything and was originated with FrontPage. i am working from my home computer and i believe the other page was done at the church.

can anyone help me get this page published? i'm pretty unfamiliar with the program so specifics and step by steps are very much appreciated. oh i have dreamweaver 8- the new one. in case that matters.

You need to get some information. You need a location to upload the files (host address), a username and a password. Then you can use something like FileZilla (or Dreamweaver has the same function, I think) to upload your pages to the website.
I'm not sure you could do this without a password, so you'll need to speak to them again. I had the same problem with my school's website but managed to find someone had the details stashed away somewhere in a folder.
Hope that helps.

Dr P
Thank you so much for the info. i was able to get the user id and password. i tried it last night and everything seemed to go through fine. however.... i did get an error message...something like: ftp error: access denied. could be due to not having permission or no webpage found. (it was something on those lines anyway). the weird part is... when was looking in the files, i had access to all the files on their server. all the really old files and the newer webpage files so i must have access to their server. i just am at a loss of what to do. i need to get this pulished and i'm constantly running into road blocks. can you... or anyone... help me? thank you!

When you say you were able to access the files on the server could you do anything with them? Like delete them or edit them?
If you can't then I'd try getting in contact with whoever hosts the site.
I use FileZilla and when I am connected I can see all the files on the server in the right-hand window and files in my computer in the left window. I can delete files on the server just by clicking on them and pressing delete and so on.
If you are putting on a whole new site then it may be best to delete everything on there, though on mine there are a few folders I can't delete which are provided by the web host.
Just in case, you could copy the old site from the server to your computer first by dragging it over.
That's about the limit of my knowledge I'm afraid!
