Solved: VB program not portability??
hi.
i made a small program in vb6.........used ADODC for microsoft access database access.........
then i created it *.exe......
now on my computer....winxp sp2 ...................this exe runs fine

but on some computers (winxp sp2) where vb6 isnot installed, it generates some msadodc.ocx error..

i am trying to figure out that "is it necessary for this type of *.exe to run on a system with vb6 already installed on it?"

..............Q2" can i convert this vb6 program into .NET program????????????

You have to include the dependent libraries with the installation. You cannot just copy the exe to another machine and have it run. Run the Package & Deployment Wizard in the VB6 Start Menu folder and go from there.

As already stated, you need whats known as VB6 runtime files. You should package these with your program and install them if needed on setup.

It needs to be registered and distributed with your executable. Windows XP comes with the VB runtime environment already installed. If the file is part of the default package then it only needs to be registered which can be done with regsvr32 manually.

As mentioned above use the Package & Deployment Wizard

You'd run into the same thing with .net as they have to have the correct version of the .net framework installed. Of course nowadays there's a greater chance of having the .nert framework than the VB6 runtime on someone's machine...
