Help me understand java methods
Hello.

I am attempting to compile my own methods in Java and am not entirely sure how to do this.

I am trying to create a method that accepts two float values as parameters and multiply these numbers & display.

Can anyone offer source for a simple method that does this?

Thanks

Hi RedWizard,

Here's a small example :

Code:

public class Test {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        double first = 3.566;
        double second = 4.75;
        System.out.println(first + " * " + second + " = " + multiply(first,second));
    }

    public static double multiply(double a, double b) {
        return (a * b);
    }

}
To run the program :

- first copy paste the whole code into a file you call Test.java,
- in DOS, compile the program :
%YourJdkPath/javac.exe %YourFilePath/Test.java
- then run the program
%YourJrePath/java.exe %YourFilePath/Test.class

Also, if you're learning Java, I advice you to start from the Java creators website :
