Automation of apps through VB
Hi all

Background

My brother runs a dental practice and in the reception area he has two monitors hooked up to a dual output video card (Radeon 9600 type). He uses these to display Winamp Visualisations on one while the second runs Amaze Screensaver. Together they provide a pleasant distraction prior to root canal work. The difficulty is that if my brother is on leave, the initialisation of the applications in their respective monitor windows is too complex for reception staff - when this is so, the system is left switched off.

As a result, I'm trying to think of a way to automate the start up of the various aspects of Winamp and Amaze under a single (or minimal) number of mouse clicks from a desktop icon.

Here's the difficult process:

(After boot up)
1. On Secondary monitor, Open/Run Winamp
2. Allow Winamp time to get running
3. Make Winamp main window active (click on title bar)
4. Select 'Options' from Winamp menu bar
5. Select 'Visualization' submenu
6. Select 'Start/Stop plugin' from submenu ("G Force" is preselected)
7. Wait (n) seconds for G Force to get running properly - will need to check this.
8. Make G Force window active (click on title bar)
9. Press 'Enter' to go full screen.
10.Primary monitor, from System tray - Left click on icon for 'Amaze'
11. Select 'Screen saver now' from submenu.
12. Click on Primary monitor to go fullscreen.

Equally, when its time to go home, on an icon click or two,

(Initiate Closedown)
1. Click on left screen and press esc to quit Amaze
2. Click on right screen and press esc to leave fullscreen for GForce
3. Close Winamp
4. Shut down computer

Yeah - I know this is a tall order but I'm looking for some direction on how to interact with Winamp and Amaze, as well as the Pri/Sec monitors to make it a much easier task for the receptionists!

Any ideas guys?

Chris

I also used WinBatch when I was in school but it costs money. The insurance company my wife worked for solved alot of their problems using WinBatch.
