Smile Some Kind of Pseudocode?
Hey Guys.

I know this is going to sound either ridiculous or completely stupid. But my friend has given me this code and within that code holds a place that we are going to. Now the thing is, unless I decode the code then I wont know! And I really need to know lol! If he finds out I've done this, he'll kill me, but oh well. So He said the code was state transition pseudocode and only a programmer could understand it.

I've tried to use a search engine to find a decoder but to no avail. So the code is as follows:

public boolean idLk = false;

public idLkSat() {
this.idLK = true;
setgft(this.idlk);
obsvrct();
smile();
}

If you could either decode it, or link me to a decoder, I would be forever grateful.

Many Thanks
Samantha

Hi Sam,

The code is not what is typically considered either state transition or pseudocode, and the routines setgft() and obsvrct() and smile() are not even given, so no one can really tell - and, I have written state transition code for system software like compilers and OS daemons.

I would just sit back and let your friend surprise you, and then you can tell them you knew it wasn't really what they claimed anyway. You don't need to tell them how you knew, just smile and then say: ok, prove it! Show me all the code and give me a walkthrough of how it is a state transition - ask for the table which contains the addresses of routines to be called when a state is transitioned, i.e. index into the table, find the address of the routine to call, and then transition the state by calling the routine and saving the state called from. Each routine in turn should manipulate the state table index by updating the state when it is called; a new input usually drives the transition table (input, state).

-- Tom

P.S. That is off the top of my head, as its been a while since I've actually designed and coded a state-transition table to handle system hangs, but it gives you an idea of what a state table can do - its a very efficient way to do some things like parsing a language in a compiler.
