I was just wondering everyone's opinion on this one: What is the best Linux distribution to be used as a programming/coding workstation?

I heard Gentoo was nice, but I'm having troubles booting it, and yes, I've tried it on three different computers.

I am using Suse 10.3. After RedHat, I started with Suse with version 8; that was rather OK but quite a lot of maintenance. The latest version is very good, easy to install, autopatching and -updating without getting stuck and, above all, up to now I could not yet make it hang. Here:

ASM programming we do with NASM, C with gcc. No OO-programming for us, too bloated; we go for simple-to-read and maximally fast coding.
