Build your own Browser
This was just a spontaneous idea, since i'm receiving errors in Firefox, (see herel for my post on that), and since I don't want to go back to being an Internet Exterminator user, I was just wandering, and musing, what would it take to wirte your own web browser. Just trivial curiosity really, I did a quick search on google, but I didn't really get a good look at the results, the frirst one I found seemed to be assuming stuff already, so what would it take?

It's simple enough to write a short script that'll just open up any website you type in to. However, once you get into anything besides that is where things get tricky. Depending on how detailed you wanted your browser to be determines the level of difficulty (as well as time) it would take.

I've thought about writing a web browser in java, but I really don't have the time to be working on any side projects at the moment. I got as far as planning out what exactly I wanted in a browser and started to formulate quasi-algorithms before I realized it would be an overly-ambitious task considering how many browsers are available today.

If you want to deviate from Firefox and Explorer, I'd recommend to you Opera. Although I love Firefox, my co-worker has convinced me that Opera is much faster. It also comes with a lot of features that in Firefox you'd have to download the extension for. This in itself contributes to Opera's superiority, because the more extensions you add in Firefox, the slower your browser becomes.

No....I don't neccesarily want to leave Firefox, its just I'm having issues with it as stated earlier and dont want to revert back to Internet Exterminator...I had a similar thought and realized it would be quite a daunting task, but I was just curious as to what it would take (I've also taken some time looking into building my own OS, which should say something).

It's a very hard work for companies like Mozilla, Microsoft or Opera. Just look at the rendered pages and the ACID 2 test. Or look at the number of web standards. There are tens or hundreds of developers writing a browser for just one company. So it's a huge effort.

On the other hand it's a good game as a programmer. It's very easy to display the basic elements of a web page.
