setting up remote connections to more than one computer on the network
First of all, sorry if this post is in the wrong section. I'm not sure where it goes. If it's in the wrong section, please accept my apologies and feel free to move it.

Anyway, I'm trying to setup my router to allow access to remote connections. I want to be able to connect to a couple computers at the office (both on the same network, the one router recognizing them both) from my home computer. I've done this before so I know how to set it up for remote connection to one computer. I'm not sure how it works for more than one though, and that's where I need some help.

I've got the router forwarding RPC connections on port 3389 to my work computer's internal IP address. It's working fine. I can connect to it from home using Windows' Remote Desktop Connection. Now I want to add the same connection to our server. I added the same port forwarding entry (RPC) but with a different port number (3388) and the server's internal IP address. I'm assuming that RDC can distinguish between the two computers by appending the port number after the IP address (so I enter XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:3388). This doesn't seem to work.

I made sure the server can accept remote connections from anonymous clients, but it still won't connect.

What can I do to set my router's port forwarding to allow remote connections to more than one computer in the office, and how can I configure the server to allow remote connections?

You need to change the servers or computers RDP listening port to 3388.

And yes, you would probably be better off putting this thread in the Windows section or Networking Section. Has nothing to do with software development.

Thanks for that Squashman, and sorry about posting this in the wrong section.

I tried following the outline in the articles you linked me to, but it does not seem to work. I changed it to port 3388, rebooted, tried connecting with RDC on another computer, and entered the IP and port # as follows:

XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:3388

It just said it couldn't connect.

Firewall on the computer?
Port forwarding on the router?

No firewall and port forwarding is setup properly AFAIK.

Tell me something. The two articles you posted seem to be for both client and server. The one titled "How to change Terminal Server's listening port" is obviously for the terminal machine (server), but is the one titled "How to change the listening port for Remote Desktop" for the client machine (because that's where Remote Desktop is)? In other words, I'm wondering if the client machine has to be setup to listen on the same port as the terminal machine.

In any case, I tried that already and I still can't seem to connect. I'm just asking to make sure I'm on the right track.

Do you think I'm typing in the IP address and port incorrectly in RDC? It's supposed to be IP_ADDRESS:PORT#, right?
