Access 2003: Any gurus out there?
Hi,

I'm putting together a couple of specialized databases, and am an Access Newbie. Is there anyone out there that might like to help with n00b questions? Nothing too esoteric, but when I look in the big thick books, I'm unable to find the same terms as they use to get my answers..

DB1: I have a Sony DVP-CX995V DVD player, holds 400 DVD's. Wanted to be able to input info, and then retrieve it by certain criteria.

DB2: Theatre: I'm an orchestra guy, and wanted to put a working DB together to pull info from shows. Individual songs, playing times, starting Keys, cut schemes and the like..

Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the link! It's amazing what niche websites are out there.. I just had surgery on my shoulder for a tear in the SLAP area of my shoulder. Yup, there's a slaptear.com for advice and info..

I have a Pioneer AVIC Z3 in my car as a toy, and oh yeah, avic411 will tell you all about it!

rick, you have really posted this question on the wrong forum, the Access & Excel guys answer over the Business Programs forum.
So if you need help and it is not on the UtterAccess forum let me know back on here.
I have built a CD/DVD database, I am not sure if I still have a copy though.

Rick, sorry for some reason I haven't received your PM.
Would you like a copy of the CD/DVD database that I have to "play" with?
I will post a copy anyway it is very basic and the way that the guy wanted it back in 2006.
I have left some Folders and Tracks in to show how it worked, it originally had 40,000 tracks in.
I could improve it a lot for you if you wanted to use it or something similar.

No PM yet?
Well, drats, I had hoped I had sent it properly.. I'm still learning on this system, so bear with me.

I grabbed the DB, I'll let you know what I come up with! Thanks so much!

Hey OBP,

I haven't had time to peek at it yet. I'm installing a new office computer, and THAT'S where the database will go. So I'm loading everything up on there and getting it ready to "play with."

From peeking at it, it looks VERY promising! You've obviously spent a bunch of time on this, and it looks great!

One of the little tweaks I want to try to put in, would be a "location" box upper right corner, with a rectangle, split top 25%, bottom 75%.. The top part of the box would list the unit (VDP1, CD1, etc..) and the bottom 75% would list the slot number (I'm using 400 DVD changers here, so that's why I need the dbase!).

So top split would be like 14pt Verdana, and the lower would be 48pt Verdana bold, so it could be read easily when I use the TV as the "monitor."

Just in case anyone is looking for something to load a lot of CD/DVD's in.. The Sony DVP-CX995V is a nice 400 disc player, works with DVD's, Audio CD's, MP3 CD's and JPG CD's. The changers were originally in the $600-$800 range, and the blow-outs on Overstock, Etronics, etc.. run somewhere in the $230-$250 range.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

If you remember the old slide projectors from many years ago that had circular "carousels" that held 100-120 slides in a circlular setup, the VDP-CX995V does the same thing. The circular "carousel" is not removeable, there's a door on the front of the unit that opens to allow you to add or remove..

Anyhoo, OBP, again THANK YOU for the dbase, and I'll let you know if I need help on my tweaks. If I get it done without help (har dee har har, fat chance!), I'll post it up here so you can review and use if you like!

All my best,

Rick
