I've never had this problem, but it seems like the imagelist component is either corrupted or is missing or maybe visual studio or .net framework were not installed properly. In either case, you might wanna re-install visual studio. If it is a school computer, then there might be some security program that's causing the crash.

il try that, tanks, just as a matter of interest when i first got VS and was setting it up, there was 3 setup icons to choose from, one with the multicoloured sheiled beside it, one with a package box beside it and another normal one, does it matter which setup icon i choose to install VS on my laptop ??

It doesnt matter bout de setup icons, its ok, I reinstalled it and its still doing the same thing, and its not only the image list, i dragged other stuff on to the form and VS just exits, it seems to be all the 'components' in the toolbox thats causing the problem and some others aswell, for instance, wen i drop one of the components on, the component appears under the form as usual but wen i select it or sumting else in VS, it just exits, Can anyone help me please

Sounds weird. Have you contacted Microsoft about the problem?

There's no free Microsoft tech support. I don't understand your description of the problem. Have you talked to your instructors who have more experience with configuring the IDE and can actually see what the problem is?
