Block CD after first Read
hi all,

I have one requirement.
Suppose user inserts a CD into his pc, autorun will load a form, user has to fill the form and click on Confirm button available on the form. On confirm my program will copy the entered details into a text file at C: drive and it should lock the CD for further Read, Write, Copy to another location or another CD, etc. How to achieve this using .NET 3.5. Kindly advice.
Note: User machine will be having a CD writer.

Thanks.
Vijayraj

Don't think you're going to accomplish anything like that. In any case, we could not advise you on how to disable someone's CD-ROM drive. It's a rather strange request, to be honest.

Thanks Elvandil for reply...

here i want to disable the CD not the CD-ROM. My application should be able to erase, lock or disable the CD when user clicks on Confirm button on the form.

Thanks,
Vijayraj.

CD's are read-only and nothing can be changed on them after they are created. Even if you used CD-RW's, you would need to execute some burning software on the users' machines and starting programs without the usrr's consent is exactly what infections do. The whole thing sounds like a cockamamie scheme. Surely, there must be some other way to accomplish what you are trying to do. PDF documents, for example, allow all kinds of editorial control over how they are used and read.

{CD's are read-only}
=> we can write CDs with multi-session.

{you would need to execute some burning software on the users' machines}
=> Yes i need to do this but how to do that? can you give some .net code, link, information on how to block that cd on particular event.

Thanks

That is infecting peoples' machines. What in the world are you trying to do that requires such strange approaches?

This is the requirement given by client and purpose is not to infect or destroy someone's machine.
i got the requirement as follows:

On inserting a CD autorun will execute a program from CD which loads a Data Entry Form
User will enter the details (answers) into given text box / check box etc......
on completion user will click on SUBMIT button, clicking on it a report will be generated and saved in C drive of the machine. After that program should make that CD unusable (that CD should not work on any other PC) and exit.

this is the way client want it .... there may be some other ways but they want in this way only....
