Post Generally free winsock port?
Is there any Winsock port that is supposed to be set aside for only mulitplayer games? If so, what is it?

Depends on the game and the server hosting the game. Most games have this well documented on which ports they use.

Thanks for the help.

OK, next question, should I assign a port to be used within my program, or should I let users define to port?

I guess I should have asked if you were writing your own program. If it is your application and you want control over how it runs by all means hard code the port for it.

Thanks for the help.

Everyone I've asked said the same thing, so I guess that's what I'll do.
