Question Netscape/IE Page Question
Why do the pages I make in Angelfire show up on IE ok, but not while in Netscape? Is there some type of html I'm missing to make them appear in both? In Netscape the music, pix and backgrounds don't all appear. Thanks. angel

Which version of netscape are you using and which pages are not showing up correctly?

Hi bfjacobs: If you click on "website" at the bottom of my post you can view my pages. I use IE6 and the pages view fine with it. But others on Netscape 4.7 can only get the main background to appear and nothing else. Thanks. angel

This new page <a href="http://www.angelfire.com/stars3/angelize56/pp2002/babysmafield.html"> here</a> in particular is causing problems. The slide show might be part of it???

I checked the page from the above post in the newest version of Netscape, Mozilla, IE, and Opera.

Everything worked fine except the slideshow didn't work in opera.

I don't use an old version of netscape like 4.7 ,but if the script doesn't work right in opera, the script is probably using some proprietary code or the script just needs to be tweaked a little to get it to work in netscape 4.7.

Some javascripts are IE or netscape only. If you dont mind changing it you can find a different slide show script (theres tons of them) at Javascript Source. If you are particularly attached to that one that youre using, you can create a version for netscape/opera users that has them click through the links for pictures. At Any Browser you can check for compatibility with HTML validation as well as viewing your sites simulated at different screen sizes and in different browsers.

You'll find a lot of pages break in netscape 4.x The browser is really old in internet years. It hardly supports style sheets (they were emerging from the standards wars at the time) and it may have trouble with many forms of embedded tables and such. It is one of those things where you decide if it is worth it to try to form alternative pages for NS4.x.

I have had to deal with it and you can often find pages on the net that will list out for you what NS supports and what it doesn't. Some even offer helpful workarounds. Search around on google if you try to make it work in NS4.x as well. Make sure to check out the tab at the top of google that says groups. Your question will probably have been asked before.

Shadow2531: Thanks for checking that out for me! Much appreciated!

Brendan: Thanks for the sites....I can live without the script I am using and go for a new one! I like the Any Browsers site. Thanks for steering it in my direction!

Deuce: Thanks. I'll try Google as you suggested and see what I can come up with. Take care all! angel

No problem and its hard to find one that will work in all browsers. Netscape 4 is well were on version 7 now so its getting outdated.

go here and validate your page on this puppy.

It is very specific on everything.

Your page of course isn't going to validate correctly, but besides showing you what doesn't conform to html specs, it will show you what elements and tags in your page don't work with a certain version of a browser.

that validator doesn't support a lot of newer html tags, but it will help.
