so there's this web page/desktop problem i'm having where my desktop has turned into some warning for spyware and it has a hyperlink right in the center of it, also when i open internet explorer the first web page is this:

and if i go to a different web address a bunch of pop ups pop up, now i've downloaded Hijack This and deleted some things that looked like i didn't want but i'm not sure if i should have done that because i don't really know what i'm doing and i don't know what i'm suppose to send to you experts either. So i would be greatly appreciative of any help.

now that you have hijack this, make sure you put the application into its own separate folder (not just on your desktop or in a temporary folder)....you've done a scan...did you notice how the scan button changes to "save log"....scan again, and save it (that's what the dedicated folder is for) and you will get a notepad .txt file copy of it simultaneous with the save....click edit/select all/copy, and paste it here....someone with expertise will be along to help you out.

Hi and welcome. Two things, first move hijack this into a permanent folder, not a temp folder where you have it now.

Second, I'm moving you to security for better assistance.

And actually, thirdly, NEVER click on those pop ups saying you are at risk.

First go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall Kazaa, Bargain Buddy, P2P Networking and Altnet Points Manager.

Click here to download CWShredder. Close all browser windows,UnZip the file, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

When it is finished restart your computer.

Go here and download Adaware 6 Build 181

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest referencefiles.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------ON=GREEN

From main window :Click Start then Activate in-depth scan (recommended)

Click Use custom scanning options then click Customize and have these options selected: Under Drives and Folders put a check by Scan within archives and below that under Memory and Registry put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the Tweak button in that same window. Under Scanning engine select Unload recognized processes during scanning and under Cleaning Engine select Let windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click proceed to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Restart your computer.

Then go here and download Spybot Search & Destroy.

Install the program and launch it.

Before scanning press Online and Search for Updates .

Put a check mark at and install all updates.

Click Check for Problems and when the scan is finished let Spybot fix/remove all it finds marked in RED.

Restart your computer.

Come back here and post another Hijack This log and we'll get rid of what's left.

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options".
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete:

The C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe file
The C:\Program Files\WindowsSA folder

ok i've done everything that you told me to except uninstalling P2P Networking and Altnet Points Manager because i couldn't find them on add/remove programs. i also still have a desktop with the warning about spyware. thanks for all your help so far.

Both folders will delete if you browse to their locations.right-click and send them to the recycle bin.

Post another HijackThis log please.

Go to Control Panel > Display. Click on the Desktop tab then click the "Customize Desktop" button. Click on the Web tab. Under "Web Pages" look for a n entry called Security or similar. Select it then click the "Delete" button.
