Question Anyone know of good war games for PC?
I'm looking for presents for a buddy of mine. He's a pretty hardcore RTS gamer, so he has most stuff that's popular. I'm not really familiar with the genre and I don't know all of what he has. I need either something obscure or something new or coming soon. Anyone know any good RTS war games? Any suggestions are appreciated!

Americas Army, fun to play, very interactive. FREE. The only problem being. It is a BIG download. Every time you turn around. they are updating it.(and that is a plus)

I would definately suggest "Call of Duty", the original and "Call of Duty" United Offensive, it is first person but has a very real time sense to it. and maybe even "Age of Mythology"

RTS - Real Time Strategy, games like Warcraft 1, 2 and 3, Dune, Command and Conquer, etc.
America's Army, Call of Duty are FPS, or First person shooters. think wolfenstein 3d, doom, quake, and the millions and millions of clones.

Line of Sight Vietnam is good.
Vietcong is OK. There are so many war games anymore that it is hard to figure what to get next. LOS Vietnam never made the big time for some reason so maybe he doesn't have it yet. It is one of the best.

Try finding Earth 2150, and it's sequel which I forget the name of. I used to play it, it's quite an old game but 3D...

Excellent, thanks people for coming through. I'm going to print out all the suggestions and try and sneak in and check them against what he has. I have been reading reviews, he's just very hard to shop for because he's hardcore RTS so everythign I look at he either already has or he wouldn't play because it's not his style.

His favorite is C&C:Generals so I did a search for games coming soon like that. I found this: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/...ion/media.html
Has anyone heard anything about Act of War? There's a demo out, but I don't have a gamespot membership. Anyone played it?

I'm surprised no one has stated the obvious choice, besides Americas Army. Did you all forget about Full Spectrum Warrior? It's a 3rd person, real-time strategy with a heavy emphasis on military tactics. I mean, for god sakes, it was designed to train Soldiers in the US Army but later decided to be ported for civilian sale.

Not to meantion that it's a freakin awesome game. It's a total adrenalin rush from beginning to end.

The Army paid to have this developed. How much more authentic can you get?

Wow, I wasn't aware the army was involved in video game development. Was it for training? Or recruitment?
